Studio Ghibli has announced its first-ever store in the United States. It'll be a pop-up at Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, California, and it'll be open only for a limited time.
Fans can start shopping on June 23, and they'll have their pick of over 400 items. All eras of Studio Ghibli's movies will be represented with products from films like My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, and The Boy and the Heron, the animation studio's latest feature film.
The pop-up will be opened by Donguri Republic, the official Studio Ghibli store in Japan. "Donguri Republic will recreate the warmth and wonder of Studio Ghibli's storytelling through a beautifully designed retail experience featuring wood-inspired interiors, whimsical displays, and a giant Totoro waiting at a bus stop for the Cat bus," states the news release announcing the pop-up. Pictures of Donguri Republic locations on the store's website offer a hint of what that Cat bus stop might look like.

One is a perpetual calendar showcasing the railway car scene from Spirited Away. Another is an LED candle starring Calcifer from Howl's Moving Castle. Donguri Republic's website might offer hints of what's to come, and we really hope items like this Princess Mononoke music box make their way stateside.
Customers who spend $100 or more will get a limited-edition Donguri Republic tote bag, and those who attend movies during Studio Ghibli Fest can get "exclusive movie film-style bookmarks."
The pop-up will last for six months until Dec. 31. Of course, those not in California can still get Studio Ghibli merchandise elsewhere, like postcards and notebooks from Chronicle Books.
