Ted Lasso gets season 4 trailer with fan favorites and new faces

Apple TV's hit comedy will be back next week.

Apple TV's beloved sports comedy Ted Lasso is almost back for its fourth season, and a new trailer was released ahead of the show's Aug. 5 return. The new season will follow Ted as he returns to Richmond for another stab at European football. Instead of picking up where he left off last time in the English Premier League, he’ll be coaching a second-division women’s team.

The trailer teases growing pains, coaches behind bars, and the return of a certain will-they/won’t-they. Beyond Jason Sudeikis coming back as Ted, Hannah Waddingham will reprise her role as AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton. Other returning fan favorites include Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, Brendan Hunt as Coach Willis Beard, and Juno Temple as Keeley Jones. The fourth season will run for 10 episodes through Oct. 7 on Apple TV.

For a little while, Ted Lasso was a cultural phenomenon. It was nominated for 61 Emmys, with its first and second seasons taking home Best Comedy. The third season was admittedly much more divisive due to its questionable character writing. According to series co-creator Jason Sudeikis, the show was originally planned for a three-season arc, and it certainly shows in how definitively the story wrapped up. Despite this, Apple renewed Ted Lasso in March 2025.

For those who need a quick reminder of where the series left off (spoilers incoming), in the last episode, Ted passed coaching duties to Roy Kent so he could return to be with his son in America. Keeley proposed the idea of an AFC Richmond Women’s Team, which appears to be the team that Ted will be coaching in the new season.

While it’s understandable to be cynical about Ted Lasso’s return given how the last season ended, having Ted coach a new team is a smart way to reset the show while retaining what made it popular. It also helps that the most recent trailer gets at the wholesome sensibilities and folksy charm that made the series such a hit. We’ll find out if the show lives up to its excellent first two seasons next week.
