Every corner of the alley is littered with Aberrations, signs of an existence beyond reality, mixed among Deceptions that, despite their eerie appearance, could still be explained by the real world. Photograph suspicious phenomena determine whether they are Aberrations or Deceptions. Reporting specific Aberrations successfully will earn you Keys. Use these Keys to unlock the “Chest of Truth” and reveal the dark secrets hidden behind the haunting.

The fact that each ghost encounter is essentially a puzzle in its own right highlights the effort the developers put into making every scenario interesting and challenging. The Alley is also genuinely scary to play. One small quality-of-life improvement would be the option to skip content that has already been seen. After dying multiple times, having to rewatch the social media video about the “self-playing” song repeatedly becomes tedious, especially since it isn’t particularly short.

Although it’s technically an anomaly-hunting game, it sets itself apart from others in the genre by having players explore an enclosed environment instead of the typical looping hallway. The Alley features some excellent scares, memorable enemies, well-placed save points, and an engaging story that keeps players invested from beginning to end.
