Move over Superman, a Game of Thrones actor is in The Batman Part 2
Photo: Jonathan Olley/Warner Bros.April 18 is Superman Day, and it is supposed to be all about the superhero who kicked off DC Studios' new cinematic universe last year. That's why it's surprising that the biggest DC Studios-related news of the day is that Game of Thrones alumnus Charles Dance joined the cast of The Batman Part 2.
Deadline reported on Saturday morning that Dance had been cast in the sequel to 2022's The Batman, which takes place in a different universe from 2025's Superman. Although DC Studios did not comment on the casting, Deadline reported that Dance will portray Charles Dent, the father of Harvey Dent.
Harvey Dent is a Gotham City District Attorney who becomes the villain Two-Face after an attack scars his face. While Two-Face appeared in Batman Forever and The Dark Knight, The Batman Part 2 will seemingly focus more on his whole family. Sebastian Stan was cast to play Harvey Dent, while Scarlett Johansson was cast as his wife.
While this casting announcement is surely going to delight The Batman fans — Charles Dance is a great actor with a storied history in film, television, and theater, after all — it may disappoint Superman fans who were hoping for a Man of Tomorrow-related announcement. Instead, James Gunn and DC Studios just released the video above, in which Gunn and actors David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, Jason Momoa, and Milly Alcock wish fans a happy Superman Day.
April 18 is Superman Day because it's when Action Comics #1, the issue that introduced Superman, hit store shelves in 1938. To celebrate it this year, DC ran promotions at local comic book stores, hosted pop-up events in Los Angeles, Milan, and Fuzhou, and released a new episode of Krypto Saves the Day.
Man of Tomorrow arrives in theaters first on July 9, 2027; The Batman Part 2 follows on Oct. 1, 2027.
