Getting around the vast and mysterious archipelago of Palpagos in Palworld is no easy feat. With so much ground to cover, literally, going by foot can feel tedious after a while. Thankfully, the game gives you the ability to ease that burden by providing the ability to ride Pals as mounts. This allows you to not only reach various locales quickly, but also certain ones that you otherwise can't get to without flying or swimming.

There are a surprising number of Pals to choose from, in terms of ones that can be ridden. Granted, certain ones can only travel by ground while others go by water or air. Also, knowing which ones are the best in their category can help make your adventures more efficient. Since ground mount Pals are the best way to start, here's how to unlock them and which ones are the best to seek out.

How to Ride Ground Mount Pals in Palworld

Riding Pals in Palworld isn't quite as simple as just hopping and taking off (unless you're the whale of legend, Panthalus, of course). Before you can turn a Pal into a reliable steed for transportation, you'll first need to craft their respective Saddle, which falls under Pal Gear.

Pal Saddles are unlocked via the Technology menu, just like pretty much everything else in the game. Once you successfully capture a ridable Pal for the first time, their respective Saddle will become available to unlock. Granted, different Saddles are unlocked at different levels, so that can factor in as well.

Either way, once you unlock the Pal Saddle you want, you'll then need to craft it at the appropriate work station at your base. The following types of technology can craft saddles:

  • Pal Gear Workbench (available at Level 6)
  • Ancient Workbench (available at Level 67; can only be used by Pals)

Once your saddle is crafted, you'll then be able to ride that respective Pal permanently, whether it's a ground mount, swimming mount, or flying mount. Note that the Pal must be in your current party in order to ride them.

Best Ground Mount Pals in Palworld

Ground mount Pals are essentially the stepping stone to flying and swimming mounts, but they're nonetheless a valuable asset for getting around far more quickly during your early adventures. Granted, each ridable Pal functions a bit differently, and some are faster than others, or have more overall stamina. Going for the best ground mount Pals should be a priority for you in the initial hours of the game, but it can be tricky to tell which ones are actually the best.

Below is a comprehensive list of the best ground mount Pals in Palworld, as of the game's 1.0 release, and where you can find them. We've also further subdivided this list into the best ones to find early, and then the best ones for your endgame adventures.
