The Best Secrets and Easter Eggs in Windrose

One thing that will always be certain about game development is that the creators will always put in eastern eggs and references. Windrose is not an outlier in this, as the game has multiple references to other IPs, but that aren't always obvious.

Windrose is a rather large game with a lot going on in it, and mixed in with the salty sea air are several secrets and references you might not have noticed. To catch each of these, you will need a bit of pop culture knowledge and a keen eye, as not every secret is marked with an X.

8 Drake's Pistol

Head, Eyes

Escape From Tarkov is a popular extraction shooter, and the game that popularized the genre. Since it's rise in popularity, the game has been referenced in several titles, and Windrose is one of them.

If you look at the description for Drake's Double-Barreled Pistol, it reads, "An elegant pistol with engraved barrels. The top one reads 'head,' the bottom 'eyes.' This is in reference to the popular death meme from Escape From Tarkov.

The meme came about after players noticed that almost anywhere they were shot in the head, the game would register that they were shot in the head, eyes. This is because the hitbox for the eyes covers almost the entire head or becomes de-synced.

7 Boar Whistle

A Secret Companion

If you search the various islands in Windrose, you can get yourself a secret companion animal that goes by the name Truffle. On one of the islands, you can happen upon an altar.

After sacrificing the correct items to the altar, you will be given the Boar Whistle. Using this item will summon a boar companion to your side. This companion will then aid you in battle, attacking enemies and acting as a distraction.

If you haven't found this companion yet, you should make your way to the altar and get the whistle. After all, Truffle is very useful, especially during boss fights.

6 Sea Turtles

Pirates of the Caribbean

"He roped himself a couple of sea turtles, lashed 'em together and made a raft." This is a popular line stated in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, The Curse of the Black Pearl.

This isn't the only time sea turtles are talked about in the movie franchise, and it appears this talk has found its way across the caribbean, because you can hear talk of sea turtles on Tortuga in Windrose.

Merchants in Tortuga will sometimes ask you if you sailed to the island using sea turtles. Obviously you didn't, but it is a fun reference to the Pirates of the Caribbean series, and a very appropriate place to have the reference.

5 Those With Loaded Guns

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

Perhaps one of the most famous western movies of all time, The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, is referenced in Windrose. To catch this reference, you need to pay attention to the weapon descriptions.

If you take a look at the Reliable Pistol, the quote at the bottom of the description reads, "There's two kinds of people, my friend — those with loaded pistols and those who walk the plank." This is a pirate-themed take on the quote from the movie, "There's two kinds of people, my friend - those with loaded guns and those who dig.

It's strange to see a western movie quote show up in a pirate game, but it fits well with the Reliable Pistol.

4 Red Flag Marks the Spot

Treasure

Typically, an X will mark the spot of treasure in any classic pirate scenario. Windrose, however, plays by a different rule. Instead, the red flag will mark the spot of treasure.

This is an easy secret to overlook, as if you don't read the page that tells you this information, you can overlook it entirely. Every time you find a small camp, look for a nearby tree with a red flag attached to it.

This tree will signal that there is a treasure chest buried underneath of it. Now you just need to grab your shovel and start digging to find it.

3 Where Were You When Tortuga Fell?

Lord of the Rings

Windrose has a massive focus on crafting, allowing players to build very elaborate bases. Even the crafting items are not able to avoid a few references, as one of the items gives a nod to Lord of the Rings — perhaps the most famous franchise of all time.

If you look through the build menu, you will find an item called a signal fire. The description of the item reads, "Where was the Royal Fleet when Tortuga fell?"

This is another pirate-y quote, with the original from Lord of the Rings being, "Where was Gondor when the Westfold Fell?" This line is spoken by King Theodon of Rohan.

2 P. Sherman

Finding Nemo

Nothing can prevent a good reference in Windrose, and that includes the fish. Fishing is a fun way to pass the time and get some extra food, but if you look carefully, you can spot a reference to the movie Finding Nemo.

Among the fish that you can catch in Windrose is the Blue Tang. This is the same type of fish as Dory in Finding Nemo, but the reference doesn't stop there. The bottom description of the fish reads, "P. Sherman, 42 Piratebay Way, Tortuga."

This is another reference to the movie, as this is the address they are trying to reach in to reunite Nemo and his father.

1 It's Only a Flesh Wound

Monty Python

One of the most famous fights in all of cinema is the fight between King Arthur and the Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. King Arthur faces off against the fearsome knight and comes out victorious, but not without the Black Knight putting up a fight.

After getting both arms chopped off, the Black Knight responds by saying, "It's just a flesh wound." A reference to this can be found in the talent tree in Windrose.

There is a talent called "Just a flesh wound," and it even has a picture of the infamous Black Knight with both arms and legs chopped off.
