And power weapons too

The best weapons in Saros will always be subjective based on your play style and strengths when exploring Carcosa, because every weapon at Arjun's disposal is capable of dispatching the various enemies and bosses he'll encounter. However, some are much more versatile, while others are especially strong in specific circumstances, such as against bosses or when taking on a big group of enemies at once.

Smart Rifle

The best all-rounder weapon in all of Saros, the smart rifle should be your go-to if you're struggling. It has a rapid fire rate, and since you can just hold down the trigger, auto-hit means the only thing you need to focus on is survival. As long as you're aiming close enough to the enemy, your shots will hone in, and you don't need to worry about precision. You can keep your eyes on incoming projectiles instead.

The smart rifle's alt-fire mode can also be useful, although it serves a similar purpose. Each shot will travel a short distance before splitting into three smaller projectiles, each with homing behavior, meaning they can target multiple enemies simultaneously. This is the best weapon choice for beginners.

Ricochet Handcannon

The ricochet handcannon is another weapon that is perfect for learning the ins and outs of Saros because it's fantastic against a pack of enemies. Every time you connect with an enemy, the projectile will ricochet, meaning you can clear big groups of foes quickly.

Once you've gotten to grips with the weapon, start utilizing the alt-fire mode, which simply allows you to fire the ricochet handcannon as quickly as your trigger finger allows. It means you need to divert attention to pulling R2 repeatedly instead of holding it down, but with practice, it just makes the weapon more efficient.

Repeater Crossbow

All three crossbow variants in Saros are pretty strong, but the repeater crossbow is simultaneously the most basic and effective. Holding down the trigger means it has a fairly slow fire rate, but each shot fires multiple projectiles at once and deals ridiculously high damage. If you tap the trigger repeatedly, you'll fire weaker, individual bolts at a much faster rate.

The alt-fire mode fires slightly quicker, and each shot turns into a homing projectile. When it connects with its target, it splits into smaller projectiles, all of which seek out other nearby targets. Both modes are extremely powerful, depending on whether you're fighting a single target or a bigger group.

Horde Shotgun

If you want to get up close and personal, the horde shotgun is your best bet, especially if you pair it with increased melee damage. When taking on multiple enemies at once, the standard fire rate is ideal as the pellets fire in a wide spread, and with five shots in the chamber before needing to reload, you can mow down foes with ease.

Need to focus on a single target, or an enemy at further range? The horde shotgun's alt-fire mode concentrates the pellets into a vertical spread, offering much better accuracy and a little more range. The other two shotguns in Saros are more niche and circumstantial than this, so the Horde is usually the better choice.

Eruptor Handcannon

Who'd have thought the handcannon would be the only weapon type to feature twice on our list? That's because while the ricochet handcannon is perfect for massive groups of enemies, the eruptor handcannon is the opposite, taking down individual foes impressively quickly. It also often comes with explosive rounds, which has the incredibly useful stat of dealing stagger damage, along with damaging nearby hostiles.

However, its best feature is its alt-fire mode because you can charge up all of the eruptor handcannon's bullets at once. Hold R2 in alt-fire mode and release the trigger to turn the handcannon into one of the fastest firing, hardest hitting, automatic weapons you've ever seen. Not to mention it only takes a second to charge and reloads almost instantly.

Nova Lance

The nova lance is the third power weapon you'll unlock, and it is by far the best choice for bosses. Hold down the trigger to charge up a single concentrated shot that is especially effective against weak points, and can pierce through foes to damage multiple at once. No frills here, just an incredibly powerful, simple-to-understand power weapon.

Illumine

You won't unlock illumine until a considerable way into Saros, but when you do, it's the best power weapon for consistent damage. This emits a constant solar beam of energy that homes in on enemies, and for every enemy you kill, another beam will spawn, granting you the ability to damage multiple enemies at once. This makes it suitable for bosses, but especially useful at taking down strong enemies who are also surrounded by weaker ones.

Prominence

The prominence power weapon is the first that you'll unlock, but it's at its best when it has the Vacuum Bomb boon. Vacuum Bomb will spawn a black hole that absorbs any projectiles that touch it and reflect the damage onto an enemy. This is especially useful against bosses that launch a barrage of orbs in your direction. Additionally, if you have a high command, you can fire off numerous charges in quick succession, so you can get back to shooting and dish on even more damage.
