The Boys season 6? Everything we know about Vought Rising and the future of the franchise

The series is going back to the beginning of the superhero business, but more spinoffs could be in the works

The final episode of The Boys released on May 20, but the Vought Cinematic Universe will continue with the spinoff Vought Rising. The prequel from The Boys writer and executive producer Paul Grellong was announced in 2024, and both season 2 of Gen V and The Boys season 5 spent some time setting things up by introducing characters who will be part of the new show. If you’re excited for more over-the-top superhero satire, here’s everything we know about Vought Rising, from possible plot details to a rough guess at the release date.

What is the plot of Vought Rising?

Vought Rising is a murder mystery set in the 1950s, during the early days of Vought – the company responsible for making and profiting from superheroes. The main characters are Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), the dark spin on Captain America introduced in The Boys season 3; and Clara Vought (Aya Cash), the Nazi who served as the primary antagonist of The Boys season 2 when she was going by Stormfront.

Both characters got their superpowers from taking V-One, which also keeps them from aging. The Boys and its spinoff Gen V introduced several other immortal characters who will appear in Vought Rising. Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater), a Vought scientist who went on to found Godolkin University, was the primary villain of Gen V season 2. Meanwhile, The Boys season 5 reunited Soldier Boy with Bombsight (Mason Dye), another veteran who served on his team. The two were rivals for Clara’s affection, so expect a love triangle.

Ahead of The Boys season 5 premiere, Ackles told Polygon that Vought Rising will be a deep dive into where Soldier Boy came from.

“We didn't change the playbook,” he said. “These guys with The Boys created such an incredible world and an amazing roadmap. We're not looking to recreate it. We're looking to capitalize on it and to continue it.”

When will Vought Rising be released?

Vought Rising is expected to release in 2027, and The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke told Polygon that the first season of the show has already been written. Kripke hopes to have the series run for multiple seasons.

“It has a season-wide story that has a satisfying ending, but then it definitely opens a door into a new adventure and a new world, and we would love to keep it going,” Kripke says. “That is up to the powers that be.”

Will there be a season 6 of The Boys?

Short answer: No. Slightly longer answer: Maybe? Will The Boys is officially over with the resolution of its overarching plot all about the ongoing battle between Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and Homelander (Antony Starr), there's still plenty of room for this world to continue. Maybe we'll see some The Boys characters show up in a spinoff? Maybe even with some of those Gen V characters, since their show was canceled in April? Anything is possible, even if it almost definitely won't be called The Boys season 6.
