The Critical Role Campaign 4 Dol-Makjar map exists – Critters just haven't seen it yet

Since the early days of Campaign 4, we’ve desperately wanted Critical Role to reveal a map. The world of Aramán has been narrated so elegantly by Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan that we can almost see the craggy, mountainous walls of Riesingürtle and the all-encompassing darkness of the Eternal Night. But, we have yet to see a world map, though we know a map of Pasitar (the continent Campaign 4 is set in) exists and is included in the players' binders.

However, thanks to Critical Role’s Liam O’Brien and Taliesin Jaffe, who play Halandil Fang and Bolaire Lothalia in Campaign 4, respectively, we know that Mulligan has also developed a map of the city of Dol-Makjar. It just hasn’t been shown yet.

Polygon spoke with O’Brien and Jaffe in a video interview, and we expressed surprise that a map of the city of Dol-Makjar had not yet been revealed.

“That seems like an oversight on our part,” Jaffe told Polygon. “There is a map, I swear. It’s beautiful.”

O’Brien also revealed that, in addition to building a map of the world and the city, Mulligan also drew the countryside of Dol-Makjar. However, O'Brien clarified that this was an “old, old” map, so it’s uncertain whether we’ll get to see it, or whether the world-building around Campaign 4 has changed so much that it no longer serves as an accurate and canonical representation of the world envisioned by Mulligan and the rest of the cast.

Despite being seen as an oversight, it’s unclear whether Critical Role will share the Dol-Makjar map anytime soon. However, that hasn’t stopped eagle-eyed fans on Reddit from spotting what they believe to be the Dol-Makjar map in Critical Role episode 20, “The Vanishing.” After a few enhancements, Critters are certain they’ve got a better sense of what the city looks like. Until we get a proper map reveal, fans will still need to rely on their imagination when visualizing the city where so much of the action in Campaign 4 takes place.
