The Duskbloods was a surprise reveal at last April’s Nintendo Switch 2-focused Direct, and developer FromSoftware has shared little information about it since. The game's appearance during Tuesday's Nintendo Direct presentation meant its 2025 reveal was no fever dream. We still don’t have a definitive release date for Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods, but we do know it will be playable this summer. A closed network test was announced during the Direct, but the exact date or sign-up requirements haven't been stated at this time.

A new trailer doesn't give too much away about The Duskbloods' gameplay. It does showcase some very cool visuals, though, like a red moon hanging in the sky and a talking rat with runes all over its body.

After last year's Elden Ring Nightreign, The Duskbloods continues FromSoftware’s multiplayer experiment. “I’ve always found the PvPvE structure very interesting. It allows for a broad range of game-design ideas, while also letting us leverage our experience of designing challenging enemy encounters,” The Duskbloods director Hidetaka Miyazaki said during an interview with Nintendo back in April 2025.

The Duskbloods will pit up to eight players against one another “for supremacy among themselves and against challenging foes,” according to a FromSoftware press release pegged to the initial reveal. Despite looking kind of like Bloodborne 2, The Duskbloods is a new IP from FromSoftware. Though, like Bloodborne, it’ll be exclusive to one platform.

The Duskbloods won't be the only FromSoftware game hitting Switch 2 this year. In early June, publisher Bandai Namco announced Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will be released Aug. 28 for Nintendo's hybrid handheld console.
