2026 has arrived, and KPop Demon Hunters doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Ejae (Rumi), Audrey Nuna (Mira), and Rei Ami (Zoey), the phenomenal singers behind KPop Demon Hunters' fictional K-pop band Huntr/x, have been performing live across numerous stages, such as Jimmy Kimmel and at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. However, fans have been champing at the bit for a live performance of a song outside the well-rehearsed "Golden." After all, there are plenty of other catchy songs in the movie.
That wish has just come true. There is a brand-new live performance of a KPop Demon Hunters song that's not "Golden" that's going through social media like wildfire. But there's a snag: it isn't performed by Huntr/x.
Image: NetflixMusic lovers will know that, no matter how much you may love the original rendition of a song, when musician-turned-talk-show-host Kelly Clarkson gets a hold of it, the cover is guaranteed to blow your mind. Jokingly referred to as "the Kelly Clarkson Effect," Clarkson's performances of popular songs on the Kellyoke segment of The Kelly Clarkson Show are beloved.
Viewers and guests can request certain songs for Clarkson to sing on her show. After a year of KPop Demon Hunters' domination on Spotify and Billboard, it's no surprise that "Golden" has been repeatedly requested. Furthermore, two of those requests came from Arden Cho (the voice actor for KPop Demon Hunters' Rumi) and Huntr/x themselves. It's one thing for a song to be requested by fans, but the voice and creators behind it also, ahem, singing your praises? That's pretty special.
However, Clarkson came to slay with a twist nobody could have seen coming. Instead of performing "Golden" as requested, she took it one step further and performed "What It Sounds Like" instead.
"What It Sounds Like" may not be as intense as "Takedown" and "How It's Done", but it's arguably the song that best captures the heart and themes behind KPop Demon Hunters' message. Clarkson's performance is mesmerizing, starting from the sweetness of its opening lyrics before picking up the pace straight after the first chorus.
It isn't the live performance of Huntr/x that some fans are looking for, and it's up for debate whether this performance managed to surpass the original, but for anyone looking for another live rendition from a soundtrack as beloved as KPop Demon Hunters, you can't go wrong with Clarkson.
