When Mouse: P.I. For Hire launched, the game quickly captured the industry's attention as a visually stunning, noir-inspired shooter that channeled the rubber-hose animation style of the 1930s – like a twisted Cuphead with guns.
It was a gritty, jazz-fueled detective story wrapped in a classic cartoon aesthetic, earning praise for its atmosphere while challenging players with its maze-like levels and hidden secrets. However, there was a missing piece in this lovely puzzle, which was pointed out by both critics and the player community: the inability to easily revisit past levels.
For a game packed to the brim with collectibles and missable side content, reaching the credits meant leaving a portion of your detective work permanently unfinished – and, speaking like a completionist myself, nobody really likes the idea of their meticulous search for secrets being cut short by a point of no return. Yet, the situation with this noir mouse just changed!
Case Reopened and Fully Optimised This Time

Thankfully, the developers have listened, completely bucking any rigid design constraints with their biggest update yet.
In an official deployment of Update v1.2.1 across Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, the studio finally introduced the highly requested “Level Revisit” feature. This addition basically shifts the post-game dynamic, providing players with the ability to replay previously completed levels directly from the overworld map to grab missing collectibles and wrap up any incomplete side quests.
And it looks like the implementation is quite smooth: completing the game now automatically transports players to the HUB zone after the credits roll, granting full access to the map.
Also, beyond letting players step back into past cases, the patch introduces a very, very long suite of quality-of-life enhancements and technical overhauls designed to make the investigation feel smoother than ever – and you’ll need a cup of coffee to read through it all, because I wasn’t kidding when I said it was “very, very long”.
You can catch up with everything on the patch notes, but some of the highlights involve the fact that the game now supports Uncapped Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) for compatible displays and also boasts full native support for ultrawide (21:9) and super ultrawide (32:9) monitor setups, alongside a performance optimization pass across all platforms (so everyone is getting some love from this update).
Glancing through the enormous list, we can notice that the development team focused a lot on bug fixes, addressing a wide range of stability concerns that were holding back performance, especially on Xbox Series X|S. For instance, they patched out a series of console-specific memory crashes on the consoles, particularly during heavy areas like “Bandel’s Mansion” and the “World’s Fair”, and removed invisible walls that were trapping players in “The Depths” and the “Office Ruins” mission. Some audio and localization hitches were also systematically resolved, ensuring that everything from weapon audio loops to Turkish and Polish subtitle spacing displays flawlessly. Last but not least, the patch introduces vital failsafes, meaning anyone who accidentally skipped the kick tutorial early on will no longer find themselves mechanically stuck in later areas.
Well, one thing is now certain: with all these stability fixes and the freedom to replay any mission at will, Jack’s detective journey is finally in its definitive, most polished form yet. So, if you haven't given Mouse: P.I. For Hire a chance yet, there is literally no better time than right now!
