After months of speculation, it turned out that the leaks were true, as Nintendo has announced that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is real and is launching in 2026, meaning it's entering the terrible release window of Grand Theft Auto 6.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of Nintendo's most beloved titles of all time, bringing the franchise into the 3D era. In Ocarina of Time, Hyrule is threatened by Ganondorf once more, and Link must travel between the past and present in order to foil his plans, in a story that shattered the series' timeline.
The existence of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake was revealed months ago by a reputable leaker, which many fans took as gospel. The leaks were correct, as it was revealed during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct on Nintendo of America's YouTube channel that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is on the way, with a whole new look.
The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Remake Launches 2026
Image Via NintendoThe Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake announcement was the closer of the Nintendo Direct, and it only offered a brief glimpse at the game. All that was shown was a tapestry of Hyrule, and a young Link sleeping in his bed, waiting for the day that his fairy arrives, with the Triforce of Courage burning on his hand. While the intro was spoken by a narrator, there's no indication the game itself will feature any voice acting, as it could have been something made for the Direct.
The trailer ended with the reveal that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is coming in 2026, though considering the trailer was revealed in June, it likely means that the game is launching at the end of the year. It's not like there's a great deal of 2026 left to give Nintendo some wiggle room, assuming a delay isn't on the cards. Right now, the holiday season is almost completely barren, thanks to the impending launch of Grand Theft Auto 6, which every studio is avoiding like the plague.

If there's one company bold enough to face Rockstar on the sales front in the 2026 holiday season, it's Nintendo. After all, it's not as if Grand Theft Auto 6 is going to be launching on Nintendo Switch 2, and there are plenty of people who aren't interested in those games, meaning there's still a huge potential audience for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake.
The trailer was essentially a teaser, as there's no indication of whether this remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is going to add new content, or whether it's a straight remake with some graphical improvements. Chances are, at the very least, Nintendo will implement some quality-of-life features to make the game less painful to play. If the Water Temple is left untouched, then it's an automatic 0/10 from reviewers, as it's still one of the most infamous dungeons in video game history.
The only bad part of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake trailer was the visuals, as only a brief glimpse of Link was shown, and what's there... isn't pretty. Link kind of looks like a character from a bad '90s CGI dance music video. Hopefully, Nintendo will rectify this soon, with a proper trailer that showcases the game's visuals, as well as providing a solid release date.
