Step into a fractured 00s childhood in the South of England. Inspired by the developer’s real diaries, this autobiographical narrative adventure invites you to uncover Alice’s story by piecing together evocative memories, and following in the footsteps of a young girl’s journey through adolescence. Based on real diary entries, police records and first-hand accounts, Step behind closed doors, in this immersive, narrative-driven experience. It’s such a sad and moving story, full of many darker aspects of humanity – so to use any positive adjectives somehow feels… incorrect in The Quiet Things.

As art… as a story that needs to be told… as an experience that gives perspective on the darkest parts of people and perspective on how people can get through those awful experiences and escape towards positivity. Fans of “walking sims” / narrative games (Gone Home, What Became of Edith Finch, Firewatch, and And Roger) or those who love art that tells of human experience, The Quiet Things feels like a must. REVISIT THE 00’s Experience memorabilia and music of childhood in the 00s, from a uniquely British perspective. Alice found solace in music reflected in the game’s soundtrack. Unlock memories tied to recognisable objects of the era.

That may be difficult for anyone who has lived through similar experiences, and there are moments that can be emotionally overwhelming. However, the game succeeds in showing how social systems fail people, how stigma develops and grows, and how it pushes others away from those who need help most in The Quiet Things. It highlights how insidious grooming can be, and how victim blaming and victim shaming can become so relentless that the person being harmed can no longer endure it. The point is simple: get this game. It has a few minor bugs that don’t significantly impact the experience, and there is room for additional graphical and environmental polish.

However, for a small studio with limited backing, the result is genuinely impressive. The Quiet Things isn’t particularly long, but the length feels appropriate. Extending it further would risk diluting its impact and emotional potency. Set in a familiar, but unremarkable region of Southern England. Visit familiar places that played witness to a series of events, that nobody could have predicted would unfold. The Quiet Things isn’t just a game, it’s about giving survivors a voice. Alice’s story is also many people’s stories, that never get heard. Dealing with themes around childhood abuse, self harm and suicide, we aim to tackle the shame and open conversations. We are stronger together.
