The Talos Principle captivated puzzle fans worldwide when developer Croteam first released the game on PC and Linux in December 2014. Several years and one compelling sequel later, Croteam and publisher Devolver Digital have unveiled the final chapter: The Talos Principle 3.

In the original game, players stepped into the metallic shoes of a nameless android who woke up in a serene yet unrecognizable alien environment. At the request of a mysterious voice known as Elohim, players had to solve puzzles—environmental and otherwise. With plenty of puzzles to solve, The Talos Principle's endings encouraged players to think outside the box, while also questioning everything around them, from the characters they meet to the overall storyline.

Its sequel, The Talos Principle 2, took this a step further by setting the story some years after the first game, with humanity having been wiped out due to climate change, leaving artificial intelligence to carry on in a virtual space.

This time around in The Talos Principle 3, players once again awaken in a strange new world. There are crumbling temples, alien fauna, and abandoned scientific outposts. The most important reveal, however, is the Anomaly — a place where up is down, down is up, and the laws of physics don’t work as they should. Worse, the player character can’t remember how they got here, only that they have to solve increasingly complex puzzles in the hope of recovering their fragmented memories.

However, with the Anomaly so ill-defined, it’s unclear whether the player is trying to escape or simply to unveil their fragmented memories.

The Talos Principle is well-known for its striking visuals and phenomenal puzzle-solving, and the third and final chapter doesn’t look like it’s going to hold back on that front.

Devolver did not announce an official release date for The Talos Principle 3, but it will be released for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC.
