Bethesda brought two announcements to today's Xbox Games Showcase during Summer Game Fest 2026 for two of their marquee online titles.

It may not be the Elder Scrolls and Fallout news fans are hoping for, but for those still enjoying Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 76, it's music to their ears.

Is Bethesda Losing Control of Its Own Announcements, or Is That the Plan?

Recent leaks about Fallout 3 Remastered suggest that Bethesda is either losing control of its game reveals or is coordinating a marketing campaign.

We have a release date for Season One for Elder Scrolls Online, as well as some incentives for people to answer the call of Vault 76 in, well, Fallout 76.

Again, not exactly the Fallout and Elder Scrolls news we were hoping for, but hey, maybe this is enough of an incentive to check the games out. Who knows; you may like what you see!

The Thieves Guild is Returning to Elder Scrolls Online

Earlier this year came a 2026 roadmap for Elder Scrolls Online. It highlighted what the team is planning to do with their new seasonal content updates. Season Zero, currently live, included several updates, such as The Night Market group event zone, new Overland Difficulty options, and more.

That was just a taste of what's to come, though. That roadmap teased what Season One will entail, headlined by new content for The Thieves Guild. A new trailer gives us not only a glimpse of what's to come, but a release date as well.

New Thieves Guild content is, without a doubt, the most exciting part of the Season One update. It may not match the legacy of the mainline Thieves Guilds, particularly what we experienced in Oblivion, but there was still a lot to love, and I'm glad to see Bethesda dipping back into the well.

Players will team up with the Thieves Guild to take on the Koldane Cartel, venture into Daggerfall, and meet a new cast of thieves to accompany them on their journey. The Elder Scrolls Online Season One: Return of Thieves Guild will launch on July 8th, 2026, for Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and Mac.

Meanwhile, Fallout 76 Just Received its 68th Free Update

Fallout 76 Just Received its 68th Free Update

First, let's state the obvious. 68 free updates over the lifespan of Fallout 76 is truly impressive. That's an average of 8 free content updates per year since its launch. Of course, said launch was quite controversial at the time, but those who stuck with it have been rewarded. It may not be the traditional Fallout experience we're so desperately craving, especially following the success of the television series, but it's better than nothing.

During the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase, Bethesda revealed the rollout of free daily rewards, starting June 7th through June 15th. Those who are curious about Fallout 76 but haven't experienced it yet will be able to enjoy a free trial for the game from June 8th to the 15th.

Fallout Creator Explains Why We Won't See The Original Games Remastered Soon, If Ever

There are countless hurdles in the way of the Interplay Fallout games being remastered.

Fallout 76 also saw the recent launch of the Infestations update, available now on all supported platforms. This is your chance to team up with friends and defeat overpowered enemies for exclusive four-star Legendary rewards. Think of it like an organically occurring mini-raid popping up all across Appalachia.

If you're holding out for a new single-player Fallout game, you may not want to hold your breath. It was recently reported that Jeff Gerstmann reported that a Fallout "thing" in development at a Microsoft-owned studio was shelved and will "no longer see the light of day." He also expects that the rumored Fallout 3 and New Vegas remakes have been outsourced to an external studio. As for new Fallout games, Gerstmann expects that Todd Howard and Bethesda will have "a pretty firm grasp" on them.
