Melissa Sarnowski has been a game writer for over two years. While she's willing to dig into any game for an article, she heavily focuses on The Legend of Zelda, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, and The Sims content, having played games from each franchise since she was a child.
Heartopia is a combination between the cozy life simulation style of Animal Crossing and gacha mechanics that try to encourage you to spend money on an otherwise free game. However, both of these game styles have a tendency to overwhelm you with the content and mechanics you're introduced to right from the start, and that can make it easy to miss tricks that could be important for simplifying the game.

10 Action Games that Reward Slow, Thoughtful Play More than Grinding
Combat comes first, but that doesn't mean you should do it mindlessly.
It turns out that there are quite a few small features in Heartopia that are helpful to pay attention to, but the game doesn't really tell you that, as you are overwhelmed with all the tutorials you receive. However, once you learn the details of the mechanics in the game, you can actually unlock more content easily without having to spend money.
10 Daily Requests
Your Prime Method for Leveling
Completing daily tasks can start to feel like a chore in any game, and that might lead you to start skipping them. In Heartopia, it's actually worth the time to complete all five daily requests every day, at least for the first few weeks after you pick up the game. The reason is that these requests are the primary way that you increase your D.G. level, and that's going to help you unlock different features, including more housing plots.
The daily requests often feel tedious, but they're fairly quick to complete, and you'll often have the items needed for the requests already, since they ask for items like stones and blueberries. If you skip too many of these requests, you might find yourself locked out of event content, since there can be D.G. level requirements to participate in some activities, which is the case for leveling ice skating in the winter event.
9 Watch the Weather
There Are Weather-Specific Events
Your in-game phone has a weather icon, and you might just see this as a fun inclusion that tells you when you might not have to water your plants for a few hours. While it is indeed a nice way to know if you can plant some crops and not water them, the weather feature has more to it than just letting you know if the sun will be out.
It turns out that weather is quite important in Heartopia. There's a vendor, Doris, who's only around during special weather events, such as rain and meteor showers. This means that weather is an important factor regarding when you can purchase some items, and if you have bad timing, then you have to wait until the next time there's special weather.
8 Crop Timers
Crops Take Different Times to Grow
It's common in life simulators that have farming elements to have crops take varying amounts of time to produce ripe items, similar to crops in real life that require different lengths of time to grow and ripen. The same idea is true for Heartopia, and the crops that you can plant might be ready in as little as 15 minutes, or take hours to grow.
The reality is that you probably aren't going to be able to constantly play Heartopia, even if you might want to. As a result, it's best to strategize the crops you plant based on your schedule. If you'll be online for a bit, you can plant crops with short timers and harvest them right away. If you'll be logging off shortly, then you want to plant crops with a long timer so you can harvest them when you return.
7 Backpack Expansions
You Never Have Enough Inventory Space
This is an issue in a significant portion of cozy games. You just never have enough space in your inventory for all the items and materials you end up hauling around. Luckily, you're able to expand your inventory space with the help of Ka-ching, and you get a quest that guides you through how it's done.
What the game doesn't tell you, however, is that you can purchase multiple backpack expansions right when you meet Ka-ching. You aren't limited to the one you need to get in order to complete the quest, and it's worth buying extra right away. You're going to go through the space quickly, so save yourself a trip.
6 Redeem Codes
Keep Track of Them for Free Items
Heartopia is free-to-play, but it's also a gacha game. As a result, you might find yourself tempted to spend real money on the game for items that catch your eye, which can be good as far as supporting the developers goes, but might not be financially great for you. Instead, you might want to consider tracking redemption codes to help you get items through the gacha system without spending money.
You can redeem codes in settings using the "Redeem Code" option at the bottom. While codes give you different rewards depending on the individual codes available, you tend to get at least some amount of currency used by the gacha system. If you keep up on redeeming codes, then you can save up a significant amount of that currency for when you really want to try pulling a specific item.
5 Always Carry Food
You Don't Have Much Stamina
As with most life sim and farming sim games, you need stamina in order to perform actions. When you're out of stamina, you can't do much other than shop and sleep. Since sleeping refills your stamina bar, that's usually the option you want to go with. However, Heartopia is a little different due to its online nature.
Time doesn't fast-forward when you sleep in Heartopia, so you end up just waiting for your stamina to refill while you sleep. As a result, it's more efficient to make or buy food and keep it with you, eating to restore stamina instead. This skips having to wait for your bar to refill, and food is easy to get in-game.
4 Learn New Hobbies
Pick Up Hobbies as They Become Available
There are a lot of hobbies in Heartopia, and you might miss them when you get the chance to learn the ones you haven't yet. In general, the hobbies tend to work together. The obvious examples are the ways that farming and fishing contribute to cooking. However, it's not obvious that it's going to take a decent chunk of time to level your hobbies.
Your hobbies will also play a role in how much you're able to participate in events. As an example, with the ongoing winter event, one task is to catch bugs that have Frostspore infections. However, if you haven't leveled up bug catching, then you won't be able to do this task.
3 Mass Cooking
You Can Cook Multiple Dishes at Once
This is kind of a funny feature in Heartopia, but useful if you're feeling like you need to rush through cooking, or you just want to burn through ingredients as quickly as possible. If you have multiple cooking stations set up close to each other, you can have dishes cooking on all of them at once.
The hard part is that you have to keep an eye on all those dishes at once and be able to adjust the temperatures when they inevitably start to burn as part of the standard cooking process in Heartopia. If you overwhelm yourself with too many dishes at once, then you're going to waste ingredients because you've burnt them.
2 Watch for Events
Participate in Events When You Can
Heartopia is a game that has events going on regularly, whether it's a seasonal event like the Winter Frost one, or a crossover event like the My Little Pony one. These last for a limited amount of time, which could be a couple of weeks or a couple of months. So, if you miss it, you can't go back to experience it. It's done.
Because of this, keeping an eye on what events are going on and when they'll be running means there's less chance of missing out on limited items that you might want to get. If you're going to be logging on and playing anyway, then there's no reason not to check out what's happening and participate in it, and you might just find a reward you like more than expected.
1 Play for Fun
There's no Wrong Way to Play
This seems to sometimes get lost in the world of gaming, but games are meant to be fun. They're a way to escape the pressures of real life for a little bit, and cozy games like Heartopia are particularly great at helping you unwind from a long day. At the same time, having daily tasks and event quests can start feeling like a chore.
You don't have to complete everything or unlock every item. You also don't have to rush through content. It's okay to take it slow and play in a way that brings you joy, and that often ends up forgotten in a fast-paced world where you're used to constant tasks needing your attention.
Heartopia is a fun game, and it's easy to get started with the game and learn how it works. However, the game doesn't tell you everything you might be curious about, so it helps to know some tips and tricks that make it easier to understand. Plus, it doesn't hurt to have the added efficiency that comes from knowing what's possible ahead of time in Heartopia.
