Toby Fox has given Deltarune fans an exciting update in his latest newsletter, as Chapter 6 is a lot further along in development than anyone realized.
Deltarune was always promoted as an episodic release, though fans back in 2018 didn't realize there would be such big gaps between releases. Creator Toby Fox has never specified exactly how many chapters of Deltarune there would be, though most fans assume it would be seven, with the entire story taking place over the course of a week.
It was announced during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct that Deltarune Chapter 5 is launching on June 24, 2026, and will be a free update for those who have purchased the previous release. In an email sent out to subscribers of his newsletter, Toby Fox has revealed more details about Deltarune Chapter 6, and they're extremely positive.
Deltarune Chapter 6 Is Closer To Completion Than Fans Thought

Fox continued by saying that he thinks some staff members could already be working on Deltarune Chapter 7 by the end of the year. This strong suggests that Deltarune Chapter 6 could launch next year if staffers are already moving onto the next part of the game.
A ton of work has been completed on the chapter already, including most of the enemies and boss battles, with most of the content that needs to be finished connected to NPC interactions.
It also bears mentioning that this is the first time that Fox has confirmed that Deltarune Chapter 7 exists, and that the game will be going that far. It's still likely that the story will conclude at that point, assuming there isn't some kind of Deltarune Chapter 0 that acts as a prequel to the game, though that's a strong possibility, considering how the first chapter began.
If progress is going so smoothly, then it's feasible that Deltarune Chapter 7 could launch in 2028, to mark the ten-year anniversary of the first game's release. Then, when the story's complete, fans can complete their alternate universes and OCs in peace, like they have been doing with Undertale this whole time, as there won't be any future content to contradict it.
Naturally, delays can still happen, but progress on Deltarune has picked up the pace over the years, with the gaps between content getting shorter. If Deltarune Chapter 6 launches next year, then the series will have transitioned to an annual release schedule, something fans have been expecting since the beginning.
The question now is what exactly will happen in future chapters? The Deltarune Chapter 5 trailer featured a lot of flower content, which Undertale fans have pointed to as references to Flowey, right down to a near identical attack pattern from the Omega Flowey boss fight. What this means in the grand scheme of things is unclear, as Flowey as an entity doesn't exist in the Deltarune world.
It's possible that Deltarune Chapter 5 will offer a more concrete connection to Undertale, possibly with Flowey or Chara appearing as a multidimensional character. It's also likely that the chapter's Dark Fountain will be related to Asgore, someone with a strong connection to flowers, and the player may learn more about his past and his connection to the Dess Holiday case.
Whatever the case, Deltarune fans are ecstatic that new content is only a few weeks away, and if Toby Fox is to be believed, then the rest of the game might not be far off.
