Spider-Man has a deep rogue’s gallery, but one supervillain in particular is getting a lot of screentime at the moment. Tombstone made his big screen debut as muscle for Kingpin in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and since then he’s popped up in three more adaptations.

Tombstone, aka Lonnie Lincoln, was a major character in the 2025 Disney Plus animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and will reportedly appear in the upcoming MCU film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He’s also going to be causing trouble on Prime Video’s Spider-Noir, which premieres on May 27. Given there are so many versions of the character, here’s a guide to his origins and recent appearances.

Who is Tombstone in Marvel Comics?

Tombstone was introduced in Gerry Conway's the 1987 comic Web of Spider-Man #36. He is typically portrayed as a ruthless New York gangster who got into criminal activity in high school, extorting other students for protection money. He has also repeatedly persuaded the journalist Joseph Robertson to kill stories that would have exposed his crimes.

The first version of the character was tall and strong, but didn’t have any superhuman abilities. He later gained enhanced strength and toughness after being exposed to an experimental gas created by Oscorp. Beyond fighting Spider-Man, Tombstone served as a major antagonist for Daredevil and The Punisher.

Lonnie Lincoln (Eugene Byrd) is a deuteragonist in the slightly overlooked Disney Plus show, and he has a richer plot arc than even Peter Parker (Hudson Thames). Peter starts as a loser and becomes a superhero backed by billionaire Norman Osborn (Colman Domingo), while Lonnie starts as the coolest kid in school and descends into a life of crime.

When his younger brother tries to join the 110th Street Gang, Lonnie volunteers to take his place to protect him. But his new job means he starts missing class and football practice. As his regular life falls apart, Lonnie earns status in the gang, getting the nickname Tombstone for saving his boss by taking down a rival.

Lonnie is exposed to a gas developed by the mad scientist Otto Octavius (Hugh Dancy), which gives him nearly indestructible skin and enhanced strength. While he has used his powers to help Spider-Man deal with big threats, the end of the season showcases how dark his path will get as he abandons his varsity jacket and becomes the new leader of the 110th.

Who is Tombstone in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

Marvin Jones III, who voiced Tombstone in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, will be playing the character in live action in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, if reports are true. While the first trailer for the film revealed the return of Scorpion (Michael Mando) and a bunch of ninjas, Tombstone was nowhere to be seen. However, Reddit rumors suggest that Tombstone might be breaking supervillains like Scorpion out of prison to cause chaos while he takes control of New York’s criminal underworld.

Who is Tombstone in Spider-Noir?

The live-action spinoff of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has Spider-Man Noir/Ben Reilly (Nic Cage) facing numerous threats in an alternate universe version of 1930s New York. Tombstone (Abraham Popoola) appeared along with Sandman (Jack Huston), Silvermane (Brendan Gleeson), and Megawatt (Andrew Lewis Caldwell) in a villain reveal video that dropped April 23.

Popoola calls his Tombstone a more grounded version of the classic comic book character and explains that he’s tied to “something nefarious.” Robertson (Lamorne Morris) is a major character in the show, and given their connection in the comics, it’s likely that Tombstone will also be applying pressure to him here.
