There’s just something unique about Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Released over a decade ago, it was actually my very first step into Ubisoft's iconic franchise, balancing pirate charm and exhilarating naval combat in a way that felt truly special for its time.
So when the publisher decided to revisit that classic open-sea magic with Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, players were naturally eager to dive back in – but even the developers themselves seem caught off guard by just how desperately fans wanted that classic experience back.
A Historic Launch on PC and Beyond

According to Ubisoft’s latest financial report, Black Flag Resynced has officially moved a staggering 3.5 million units in its first 14 days on the market. In doing so, the title obliterated the publisher’s internal sales projections for the entire first year in just two short weeks, which is quite impressive.
Developed by Vantage Studios and released in early July, the project has turned out to be an immediate commercial juggernaut. CEO Yves Guillemot even highlighted the launch as an encouraging proof point for Ubisoft’s ongoing corporate restructuring, noting that the remake has already become the highest-rated Assassin’s Creed game since the original 2013 release!
And the numbers on PC are particularly eye-opening: Black Flag Resynced made franchise history by becoming the very first Assassin’s Creed title to cross 100,000 concurrent players on Steam. Ubisoft confirmed that this momentum translated into a historic proportion of PC sales for the entire brand, with the United States and Chinese markets heavily driving the surge.
Interestingly, this commercial win isn't even reflected in the publisher's Q1 financial results. Ubisoft reported first-quarter net bookings of €256 million (a 9% drop year-on-year, though still slightly above internal guidance), which was primarily driven by mobile hits, such as Invincible: Guarding the Globe. Because Resynced launched right at the start of Q2, its revenue wave is set to dominate the company's next earnings report instead, leaving investors with plenty to look forward to.
While Guillemot expressed gratitude toward the development teams for bringing the title to life, these milestones come with a distinctly bittersweet backdrop. The very same corporate restructuring being praised in the earnings report has involved widespread layoffs across the company, affecting many of the talented developers who worked directly on making Black Flag Resynced such a polished triumph.
It is a sobering reminder of the current industry climate, but it also highlights an undeniable truth: gamers are hungry for focused, high-quality single-player experiences that honor the roots of iconic franchises.
As Guillemot summarized in his statement to investors: "This launch illustrates the enduring appeal of the Assassin’s Creed brand, as well as the early benefits of our ongoing transformation and commitment to delivering very high-quality experiences."
Honestly, as someone who spent countless hours singing sea shanties and taking down man-o'-wars back in the day, seeing Edward Kenway shatter sales records all over again in 2026 feels quite earned. It actually proves that when Ubisoft delivers a polished revival of a beloved classic, the community is more than ready to step back onto the deck. I just hope the publisher takes the right lessons from this victory moving forward.
