Eric has been a gaming fan ever since getting an original Xbox for Christmas in the early 2000's. From then on, he has become enthralled in the gaming world, spending thousands of hours in Halo multiplayer matches, climbing dozens of towers across the Assassin's Creed games, and 100% perfecting every single Horizon game to date.

When not writing for DualShockers Eric can typically be found playing games on his PS5, PC, and Xbox or reading sci-fi, horror, and fantasy books/comics.

A few days after Ubisoft announced that veteran Assassin's Creed writer and creative director Jean Guesdon would be taking a new leadership position for the franchise as Head of Content, Guesdon took time out today to shed light on the future for the AC franchise in 2026 and beyond.

Guesdon first acknowledged fan frustration and scrutiny with the franchise following recent controversial decisions and assured players that Ubisoft will now "maintain a clear, consistent dialogue about our vision. One that fully embraces the franchise's roots and DNA while also pushing towards innovation and exciting new experiences for you to discover."

The new Head of Content then delved into what fans can expect from older AC titles, with Assassin's Creed Shadows only getting smaller, less frequent updates this year, while Assassin's Creed Unity will receive a free 60 FPS patch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms tomorrow.

The rest of Guesdon's announcements focused on upcoming AC titles, those that have been previously confirmed to be in development, and those that haven't been confirmed until now.

The Future of Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed: Codename Hexe was first announced all the way back in 2022 alongside Shadows, back when it was called Assassin's Creed: Codename Red, but since then, little to no official information has been disclosed about the next mainline AC game.

Rumors and supposed leaks have suggested that Hexe will be set in the Holy Roman Empire during the 1500s and center on witch trials, and while Guesdon doesn't confirm any concrete details about the game in this announcement, he did confirm that the game will be a darker, more narrative-driven game and that it will be a little while longer before official details are revealed.

Ubisoft recently appointed three veteran Assassin's Creed developers and executives to oversee the Assassin's Creed franchise.

Guesdon went on to reveal that Assassin's Creed: Codename Invictus is a PvP multiplayer game being developed by those at Ubisoft Montreal who worked on For Honor, but suggested that it's not the type of multiplayer game rumors have suggested, likely referring to alleged remarks from anonymous Ubisoft developers who compared Invictus to Fall Guys.

No release window for Invictus was reveale,d but Guesdon did confirm that Assassin's Creed Jade, a Qin Dynasty-set game that was long suspected to be quietly canceled, is still in development alongside other unknown AC projects, including one with a focus on co-op multiplayer.

Finally, the cherry on top of all these revelations was Guesdon confirming that the long-rumored Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag remake is, in fact, in development and called Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced with one piece of concept art shown depicting pirate turned Master Assassin Edward Kenway atop a ship.

A release date for Resynced wasn't announced, but it's expected to launch in early 2027, with Resynced suspected to be the unidentified game that was supposed to launch in February before being delayed alongside other Ubisoft titles.
