The adventure genre is certainly going through some of its best days in recent decades. Whether we're talking about sprawling dark-fantasy, psychological horror journeys, or intimate road trips and atmospheric mysteries, 2026 definitely has a lot in store for us. Even though blockbuster action games and AAA titles often dominate the headlines, there are many other adventure titles worth exploring that are flying under the radar at the moment.
10 Upcoming Horror Games to Keep on Your Radar in 2026
Here are 10 upcoming horror games to keep an eye on in 2026.
Adventure games seem to fit almost everyone's schedule because they always have just the right amount of action, exploration, and great story that nobody can resist: from MOBA and RPG fans to shooter and RTS lovers.
10 Rivage
Lost Among the Stars
|
Exnilo Studio |
|
Raw Fury |
|
2026 |
In Rivage, you're put in the shoes of Miranda, a scientist who wakes up in the A.R.E.S. research station orbiting the distant planet VESTA. The other crew is missing, and everything around you seems odd, so through adventure and puzzle-solving, you need to discover what's behind these weird cosmic phenomena and what happened to your crew.
Some games can just make you a puzzle fan right out of the gate, and this one has the potential to be one. Rivage's single-player gameplay will put you in a logic-based exploration, so if you're a big fan of escape rooms, this one will definitely be for you. The reason it's at number ten is that its release date is somewhat in the shadows, with mixed reports about it arriving by the end of 2026, and that the game is generally focused on an intimate puzzle adventure that doesn't overpromise. Rivage's demo is already available, so we take that as a sign that we'll see it by the end of the year. The game will be available on PC, Xbox X|S, and PlayStation 5.
9 Wild Blue Skies
A Return to Arcade Flight

Chuhai Labs, VITEI BACKROOM Inc. |

Balor Games |
|
August 16, 2026 |
Wild Blue Skies is one of those games that wants to hit the millennials and older gamers right in their childhood, as it offers them a Nintendo 64 and early PlayStation experience with hand-crafted anime-style visuals and modernized controls. One of the reasons to keep your eye on this one is the fact that the game is developed by Chunhai Labs, which was founded by Giles Goddard, the guy who worked on Star Fox and Super Mario 64. The game is a single-player aerial shooter with a storyline that follows Bowie Stray and his crew of pilots as they fight the evil Grimclaw with their Star Wars-like ships.
The game has branching mission paths and score-attack systems that offer many opportunities for replay, as fans would often want to outdo their previous scores. Wild Blue Skies is set to release on August 16, 2026, on PC, Xbox X/S, and PlayStation 5.
8 Forever Ago
The Road to Healing
|
Third Shift |
|
Annapurna Interactive |
|
2026 |
This third-person, single-player adventure follows an old man, Alfred, who decides to hop on a road trip after suffering a personal tragedy. Forever Ago takes you on a slower-paced emotional adventure, where you'll visit different environments, meet different rich characters, and solve light puzzles, giving you a movie-like feeling.Companies behind the game, Annapurna Interactive and Third Shift, announced the game all the way back in 2020, which means that the game has been carefully crafted so far and shouldn't disappoint. The game is planned to release sometime in 2026 and come onPC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS5, and Switch 2.
7 The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales
A Journey Through Time
The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales
A well-known team from Square Enix, making turn-based 2D RPGs, is back with a top-down HD-2D RPG that could remind some of classics, such as The Legend of Zelda. The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is a single-player action RPG that puts you on a path of exploration, adventure, and combat while uncovering a major civilization mystery. You will do this in the shoes of Elliot and his fairy companion, Faie, across four different historical eras.
It landed in seventh place because even though it's a traditional JRPG-like game coming from a famous studio, its full potential will depend on how well the action combat system is balanced. Having said that, it is scheduled to release on June 18, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and many fans are looking forward to that imminent release.
6 Outward 2
Adventure Without Handholding
Nine Dots Studio, which developed Outward 2, has already built its reputation among adventure fans with the game's prequel, Outward, a game that was then even considered unconventional. What Outward 2 brings is an RPG experience with a heavy focus on realism and survival. The game will have no GPS markers, no scaled encounters, and a world where time and weather change just like in real life. Your character will have to eat, sleep, and even consider weight management before fights in this sequel that takes you to the Aurai region roughly 50 years after the first game.
What is also attractive is that this game can be played as a single-player experience or in co-op (online or split-screen), which surely offers more opportunities and attracts more adventure fans. However, it ended up in sixth place because the game's demanding, seemingly punishing system isn't for everyone. I have second thoughts about games like this myself, as I don't like any survival-genre game that puts me in grinding mode. Outward 2 is coming out as Early Access on July 7, 2026, and will be available on PC. The full release will likely be available on other platforms eventually as well.
8 Upcoming Open World Titles to Keep on Your Radar in 2026
Players should watch out for these eight promising open world games that are currently scheduled to launch later this year.
5 Sublustrum
A Descent Into the Unknown

Brickworks Games |

Brickworks Games |

2026 |
Sublustrum is one of those games that brings a surreal, psychological, and eerie approach to adventure gaming. It will be a remake of the cult 2008 psychological adventure Outcry from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5. We'll be curious to see if this game shows Unreal Engine 5's full performance, as some others have.
In the game, you are cast as a writer who is trying to find his lost scientist brother, only to end up in a liminal space between dreaming and being awake. The adventure focuses on explorable 3D environments and puzzles with a meticulous and beautiful design. Some of the puzzles are seemingly built around sound, and the whole game will make you think in new ways in order to move forward.
Sublustrum is in the fifth position because it brings an original take to this atmospheric adventure game. Even though it doesn't have the bells and whistles of popular puzzle adventures, it seems it has all the ingredients to become one. The game is set to be released sometime in 2026, with only PC confirmed as the available platform for now.
4 IKUMA: The Frozen Compass
Surviving the Frozen Frontier
IKUMA - The Frozen Compass
A coming-of-age adventure, IKUMA: The Frozen Compass, is shaping up to be a quiet, emotional co-op adventure for those who love exploring. The setting takes you to 1864 to explore an unknown island in the Arctic, as you play a boy named Sam and his loyal husky, Ellie. The best thing about it? In local co-op mode, one player controls the boy while the other one controls the dog! The whole experience blends exploration, survival, and, as you would expect, mystery.
The screenshots and videos available now already show a beautiful environment and detailed design that cozy games have, so I expect the game will find fans across the gaming crowd. It might even become one of the cozy games that changes the genre. The game will be available for purchase sometime in 2026, without a specific date so far, and it will be on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
3 Onimusha: Way of the Sword
The Samurai Returns
Onimusha: Way of the Sword
After 25 years, a new Onimusha game is coming back from Capcom. Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a single-player adventure that puts you into fierce sword-fighting in Edo-period Kyoto, where you control legendary Japanese swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. Besides his obvious sword skills, the protagonist wields a powerful Oni Gauntlet that grants him superhuman abilities. He'll definitely need that, because he needs to fight Genma, a race of immortal demons, that probably wouldn't be frightened of a regular, human samurai.
The game's rich fighting system features parrying and deflection that need to be used carefully, as well as a rich exploration atmosphere to cover the adventure segment of the game. This game could easily be one of the biggest hits of the year, and if you can't wait till September 25, 2026, to play it, a demo is available for PlayStation 5 players. Upon full release, the game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
2 Silent Hill: Townfall
Fear Beneath the Surface
The Silent Hill franchise is not stopping with its thrilling games, and the latest, Silent Hill: Townfall, is a first-person, single-player psychological horror adventure that will attract many thrill-seeking gamers. This one is set in the fictional Scottish fishing village of St. Amelia, where the protagonist, Simon Ordell, uncovers fragments of the past, among other things. It would be easiest to describe it as a stealth and puzzle-solving survival game.
The game has great potential, and if it delivers on the familiar unsettling atmosphere like previous games, with its tense exploration and dynamic gameplay, it will be one of the favorite adventure games 2026 has brought us. After all, the original Silent Hill is one of the best PlayStation 1 games of all time, so this game has big shoes to fill. Silent Hill: Townfall will release on September 25, 2026, and will be available on PC and PS5 only.
1 The Blood of Dawnwalker
The Year's Dark Fantasy Epic
The dark fantasy adventure RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker tops our list as the most exciting adventure of 2026, as it combines nearly all things adventure fans could ask for: choices and consequences, rich explorable open-world, and deep narrative. Being developed by people who worked on The Witcher 3, this game puts you in 14th-century Vale Sangora to fight vampires with your sword while at the same time being a half-vampire yourself. Yeah, just like in the popular Blade franchise. Also, the story puts a clock on your character, Coen, where he has only 30 days in which he needs to save his family, so every choice you make matters greatly.
What puts the game in the first place is the potential it carries coming from its popular creators, as well as the mix of consequences, vampire powers, a time-limited story, and dark atmosphere. There aren't many games that remind me of The Blood of Dawnwalker, and if all goes well, it can easily be a game that people will be talking about years from now. The game will come out on September 5, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
