Thanks to publishers scrambling to avoid overlap with Grand Theft Auto 6’s November release, September is going to be one of the most packed gaming months in recent memory. However, it just got a tiny bit less crammed. The studio behind the upcoming first-person soulslike Valor Mortis has decided to push its game from Sept. 24 to Oct. 13.

One More Level announced the news on X, explaining that the team locked in the game’s initial release date before that day became so crowded. Control Resonant, Silent Hill: Townfall, Hot Wheels Infinite Rush, and Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition for the Switch 2 are all coming out on Valor Mortis’ previous release date of Sept. 24. Onimusha: Way of the Sword comes out the day after. If that wasn’t enough, Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave, Marvel’s Wolverine, and Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 4 are out the week before.

Valor Mortis’ studio said the delay will also provide time to incorporate feedback from the game’s recent Steam demo. One More Level previously created the well-received GhostRunner games, first-person action platformers praised for their sharp controls. From Valor Mortis’ initial demos, it seems to maintain the responsive feel of its predecessors while translating this swordplay to a From Soft-inspired action RPG. The game is set in an alternate history 19th-century Europe where Napoleon never lost, and a mysterious supernatural plague has begun to run rampant.

While Valor Mortis’ new release month of October has a bit less going on, it’s also quite stacked, with Ace Combat 8 out on Oct. 1, Gears of War: E-Day and Star Wars: Galactic Racer on Oct. 6, Dragon’s Dogma II: Dark Arisen on Oct. 9, and Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse on Oct. 15. And that’s not to mention a new Final Fantasy and Call of Duty later in the month. It seems that only Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered, Barbie Rewind, and a few other brave combatants have the courage to stand against GTA 6 in late November.
