Eric has been a gaming fan ever since getting an original Xbox for Christmas in the early 2000's. 2025 was an eventful year for both Ubisoft and its Assassin's Creed franchise, as it saw the debut of the series' 14th mainline entry with Assassin's Creed Shadows in March early that year.

Last year additionally saw Shadows receive numerous free updates and crossover events with other franchises alongside the release of the Claws of Awaji DLC expansion.

Even Assassin's Creed Mirage received the unprecedented free DLC Valley of Memory launch in November, while last year's summer season saw Netflix announce the development of a live-action AC show with Emmy nominees Roberto Patino and David Wiener serving as showrunners.

While 2025 may already be over, there's still a ton of AC content fans of the nearly 19-year-old franchise can expect to see in 2026, including new updates, game releases, announcements, expanded media publishing, and more.

Assassin's Creed Game Releases in 2026

Assassin's Creed Black Flag

For several months now, rumors, leaks, and even Ubisoft job listings have pointed towards a remake of 2013's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag being the next major AC game launch after Shadows.

In early December, the Pan-European Game Information rating system briefly listed Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced with a PEGI 18 rating before being quickly removed.

Resynced has been largely developed by Ubisoft Singapore, having previously released Skull and Bones, and is expected to remove Black Flag's modern day segments entirely and expand upon Edward Kenway's story with updated gameplay similar to those seen in recent RPG AC titles.

Currently, Resynced is expected to launch in late March as Ubisoft's final unannounced game to debut within their fiscal year as well as to coincide with Ubisoft's 40th anniversary.

Assassin's Creed: Codename Hexe and Other AC Titles

assassin's creed codename hexe

Initially announced in 2022, Assassin's Creed: Codename Hexe is the franchise's next mainline title, having been in development since 2021 by Ubisoft Montreal and Narrative Director Darby McDevitt, and is one of its most ambitious titles if rumors and leaks turn out to be true.

Hexe is rumored to not be an RPG-style game like Shadows and its immediate predecessors, but rather a mix of traditional linear AC titles like Assassin's Creed III with the RPG games.

The game is expected to be set during the 16th century witch trials in the Holy Roman Empire with a female Assassin as the lead character who can use witch-like supernatural powers.

Assassin's Creed Jade Protagonist

Having been in development for such a long time, especially for AC games, Hexe is expected to launch in late 2026, possibly October or December to avoid competition with Grand Theft Auto VI, but there are rumors that it could be delayed till early 2027.

Resynced, Hexe, and other AC games such as Assassin's Creed Jade and the leaked multiplayer title Assassin's Creed Invictus are expected to be featured in more announcements and events such as Ubisoft Forwards throughout the year, though Jade may either be quietly canceled or reworked into a larger game instead of one regulated to mobile platforms.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Year 2

March 2026 will officially begin year two of Assassin's Creed Shadows, but for fans of Naoe and Yasuke, the year may turn out to be a somewhat disappointing one.

According to Associate Game Director Simon Lemay-Comtois, Shadows won't receive a second proper DLC expansion similar to Claws of Awaji despite the game being originally marketed as receiving two expansions through a season pass.

Instead, Shadows will be routinely updated throughout the year with smaller, free but less frequent content drops, such as being able to fight against prior bosses and potentially a short story mission allowing Naoe to acquire an outfit similar to Shao Jun's from Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China.

Shadows' long-rumored co-op mode may debut later this year, while leaks and rumors have hinted towards the game receiving brief crossover missions for Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Resynced similar to crossover missions featured in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

Assassin's Creed Shadows - Iga no Monogatari Manga ubisoft.com

When Shadows launched in early 2025, it was joined with a simultaneous serialized digital manga publication called Assassin's Creed Shadows - Iga no Monogatari or Assassin's Creed Shadows: Tales of Iga.

This prequel manga explores the origins of the original Japanese Brotherhood of Assassins featuring its founder, Alvaro Catarribera, and younger iterations of Naoe's parents, Tsuyu and Nagato, and Hattori Hanzo.

The manga was originally published on Japan's Weekly Young Magazine website, but it will finally be released physically in English in mid-June later this year.

Further Revelations About Netflix's Assassin's Creed

On top of this book release, fans could expect to see more news surrounding Netflix's AC series come out as Netflix has been repeatedly announcing regular cast members and crew for the show throughout late 2025 and early 2026.

So far, the cast for Netflix's Assassin's Creed includes:

  • Tanzyn Crawford
  • Laura Marcus
  • Zachary Hart
  • Lola Petticrew
  • Toby Wallace

Official details on the show's characters and settings remain unknown, but rumors have suggested that the series could partially take place in Ancient Rome, specifically around 54 C.E., and feature Roman Emperor Nero.

Netflix's Assassin's Creed currently has no release date, as casting is still underway, but Ubisoft and Netflix can potentially release concept art or officially announce the plot of the show later this year to get fans excited, especially with AC's 20th anniversary occurring in 2027, which would be a perfect release window for AC's first proper live action series.
