The Epic Games Store's latest free mystery game has been revealed. Until 11 a.m. EST on Dec. 19, Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel will be available to claim for free at Epic.

After being in early access, Jotunnslayer launched in full this fall. It's a blend of the roguelike and horde survivors genres, and is inspired by Norse mythology. Relying on upgrades from the Norse gods, you'll fight through waves of enemies in unrelenting, fast-paced battles. Each character you can play as has their own unique skills and weapons, encouraging experimentation as you try to find your ideal build.

Typically, we know what game Epic is giving away a week in advance. However, during the holiday season, Epic literally wraps the game in mystery; the thumbnails on the Epic Games Store just show an image of a wrapped holiday present (complete with a bow on top).

In 2024, the Epic Games Store gave away more than a dozen games in the two weeks leading into the new year, many of which were terrific, including Dredge, Control, and Sifu. With Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel being free for only 24 hours, expect Epic to continue its holiday tradition of giving away one game a day for the next two weeks.

If you want to pick up the Epic free game, all you need to do is log in to the Epic Games Store and claim it. The free mystery games are free for 24 hours, and reset each day at 11 a.m. EST, when the next mystery game will be revealed.
