In Subnautica 2, you need to craft to survive. Sulfur isn't a resource that you need to prioritize at the beginning, which is when you should be working on building your habitat and preparing it with the equipment you'll need to survive and power it. However, you'll reach a point in the game where you need to start gathering Sulfur for more advanced crafting recipes.

Unlike most other resources, Sulfur isn't exactly close to the points of interest you'll be investigating. Resources like Titanium and Copper are found throughout the map, and most items you need to scan for habitat blueprints are located in the wreckages you come across. Meanwhile, Sulfur is out on its own.

Where to Find Sulfur

Subnautica 2 Sulfur Location

If you want to find Sulfur, you'll need to head about 260 meters to the southeast of your Lifepod. It tends to be on the rock formations in this area rather than at the ground level or in caves, which is the usual location for resources. However, the Sulfur nodes blend into the rocks in this area, which makes them difficult to spot if you aren't specifically searching for them and know that they look like yellow crystals.

To add to the difficulty of collecting Sulfur, most of the nodes are large enough that they require the Sonic Resonator to gather. If you don't have the Sonic Resonator, then you'll have to search the area for smaller nodes of Sulfur that can be gathered without it. There aren't many of them, but they do exist, so you should be able to grab a handle of Sulfur to take back to your habitat.

Recipes Using Sulfur

Subnautica 2 Sulfur Acid

Sulfur is one of the required resources for the Repair Tool. The full requirements for the Repair Tool are:

  • 1 Titanium Ingot
  • 1 Wiring Kit
  • 1 Basic Battery
  • 1 Sulfur

Other recipes that use Sulfur include the Advanced Wiring Kit that requires one Sulfur and the alternate recipe for Strong Acid, which uses one Sulfur and one piece of Gold instead of the usual Necrolei Cyst.

While it might be tempting to use your Sulfur for Strong Acid, it's more efficient to use the Necrolei Cysts. They're more abundant, and you can gather them without the Sonic Resonator if you want to collect more than a few at a time, unlike with Sulfur. Also, you can plant Necrolei Cysts in a Growbed to farm them directly in your habitat for a constant supply, which you can turn into a steady supply of Strong Acid.

From here, your plan should be to craft the Repair Tool and head to the larger wreckages, as you'll be able to pick up blueprints for the Rebreather. While you don't need to rush to get the Rebreather, it's going to make your life quite a bit easier overall, so you don't want to put it off too long either. After all, when you have to spend most of your time underwater, any piece of equipment that makes your oxygen last longer is incredibly useful in Subnautica 2.
