Where to find Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

5 days ago 6

Pokémon Legends: Z-A features plenty of Pokémon to catch and evolve from across the many Pokémon generations. In addition to its starter trio of Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile, it also features the Kanto starter Pokémon from the original games. If you're wondering how to add Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle to your team, our guide has you covered.

How to get Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Like Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Legends: Z-A is filled with side missions to tackle when you're not catching Pokémon or battling trainers. You'll get your first Kanto starter by completing a specific side mission.

After achieving rank W, the next day you'll run an errand that ends with you battling one of your fellow members of Team MZ. After you battle her, heal your Pokémon at a Pokémon Center and you'll receive a call on your Rotom phone from Mable. The appropriately named side mission "A Call from Mable" will then become available. To complete it, all you have to do is head to the Pokémon Research Lab and go up to Mable's office where the Kanto starters will be waiting.

Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle will be off to the side, and you're allowed to select one at this point in the game. Pick whichever one you want and they'll be added to your team.

To get the remaining two Kanto starters, unfortunately you'll have to wait until Pokémon Legends: Z-A's post-game. You can also always ask a very generous friend to trade you their Kanto starter, but since there's no breeding in this game, that may be too heavy of an ask.

Where to catch Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle in wild zones in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

After completing Main Mission 37, you'll have wrapped up Pokémon Legends: Z-A's main story and unlocked the post-game. You'll also have unlocked the final wild zone. In Wild Zone 20, you'll encounter a variety of Pokémon, including the Kanto starters.

Wild Zone 20 is a circular zone in the dead center of the map, around and underneath what remains of Prism Tower. Because there is a large variety of Pokémon that can be encountered in Wild Zone 20 (including Legends: Z-A's starting trio of Chikorita, Totodile, and Tepig), you may have to run a few laps around the wild zone, or leave and reenter it, to get the Pokémon you want to spawn. Like the other regular Pokémon in Wild Zone 20, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle will be around level 53-55.

If you own the Mega Dimension expansion, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle can all be encountered in pockets of Hyperspace Lumiose. When hovering over a Hyperspace wild zone on your map, you may see a Kanto starter listed as available (or its black and gray silhouette if you haven't caught the Pokémon yet). However, which Pokémon that show in the Hyperspace wild zones is based on chance, so running around Wild Zone 20 might be your best bet if you want to add a Kanto starter to your team right away.
