Pokémon Pokopia How to Learn to Jump

Jake brings two decades of experience with him, having covered major industry events, breaking news, one-on-one interviews, and more.

When he's not playing World of Warcraft, he's usually on the hunt for good food and a refreshing beer to wash it down.

It threw me for a loop during my Pokémon Pokopia play sessions when Magikarp started singing "I get up, and nothing gets me down."

Or maybe I'm just thinking of Van Halen.

Anyway, Magikarp is still relevant here as it's the Pokémon that is going to teach you the Jump ability. It turns out that the infamous Pokémon isn't so useless after all! The benefit of jumping is that it's a more fluid movement to navigate the world of Pokémon Pokopia compared to the natural leaping your character will do.

Jumping is incredibly handy as you explore more of the world around you, including digging down below the surface and discovering the secrets that await you.

Let's talk about where to first find Magikarp, and then how to get it to teach you the Jump ability.

Where to Find Magikarp in Pokémon Pokopia

From the game's starting area, turn around and head towards the little cave structure.

You'll see some light brown rocks along the wall that are primed and ready to be struck by the Rock Smash ability.

In order to learn Rock Smash, you'll need to talk to discover and then talk to Hitmonchan.

Break them open, and you'll gain access to a new area by the ocean.

Make your way to the ocean, and you'll see a struggling Makigarp that's busy doing Magikarp things. Don't worry, though, as it's in a talkative mood.

Magikarp is unhappy, as it's looking for a habitat to make its home. That's where you come in.

You'll get an official request from Magikarp to make an Ocean fishing spot, which requires the following three items:

  • 1 Fishing rod
  • 1 Seat (of any kind)
  • Ocean water nearby

Good news: there's plenty of Ocean water nearby, so no need to worry about that. There's also a fishing rod nearby as well that you can pick up. The only thing that's missing is a seat, and you'll be able to make a Log chair at the nearby crafting station, provided you have one small log handy.

In order to make the Log chair, all you need is one small log.

Once you complete the habitat, Magikarp will express its gratitude by teaching you the Jump ability. Congratulations! You're now free to jump up, jump up, and get down to your heart's desire. Best of all, the Jump ability does not consume any PP when used. It is completely free; all you need to do is press the R button.

Use this ability to explore all of your surroundings. You'll never know what's waiting for you in the world of Pokémon Pokopia until you explore it!
