Including quartz farming spots past the Alien Ruins

Subnautica 2 quartz locations seem like an enigma at first, as you're given very little information about where to find them. However, once you know where to look, it's one of the most plentiful resources and a convenient one to stock up on. You'll need plenty of quartz as you unlock new blueprints, as glass and certain electronic devices require it.

Below, we explain where to find quartz in Subnautica 2 and some of the best places to get a lot of it fast.

[Ed. note: Before you dive in, be sure to open the character menu and enable all landmark signals. This will make it easier to spot the locations mentioned in this guide.]

You'll occasionally find quartz deposits on the seafloor in the area around the Lifepod, though they only show up at random when small crabs dig stuff out of the sand. The best place to find quartz is on the inside of a coral dome, the giant orange shell-shaped things. In our experience, any coral dome big enough for you to enter will have at least one quartz deposit — usually, they have a lot more than one — and you don't need the sonic resonator to obtain them.

Coral domes stop appearing as frequently the closer you get to hot water and the Tadpole Pens. You may want to stock up on it and maybe carry a portable locker full of the stuff across to the Alien Ruins if you think you'll need it. However, larger chunks of quartz do start appearing more regularly in the sand around the ruins, so you won't have to trek all the way back to the Tadpole Pens and beyond just to find it again.

You've got two excellent quartz farming spots early in the game. One is the giant coral dome above Wander's Blackbox, an area you'll have to explore to progress through the main story.

The other is roughly halfway between your Lifepod and the Tadpole Pens, roughly 300 meters east of the Lifepod and 350 meters west of the Tadpole Pens. You'll see a bunch of coral crabs stomping around the area, but the domes that aren't occupied by crabs have quite a lot of quartz in them.

The next farming spot is closer to the Alien Ruins, on the other side of the massive gap that separates the ruins from the Tadpole Pens. It's about 240 meters south of the ruins and 150 meters northwest of Ruby's second blackbox, another spot you'll investigate as part of the main story. The depth exceeds 250 meters though, so you'll have to exit your tadpole to reach it (until you upgrade the vehicle, that is). These are large deposits that require the sonic resonator to obtain, and you'll also have to dodge around aggressive Mango Needlers. It's worth the hassle though, as there's a lot of quartz around here.
