Hytale is a pretty massive game. And I’m not just saying that because it’s procedurally generated. No. In fact, there’s much to do here, from crafting to exploring, to travelling to new, exciting worlds. And it’s not even finished yet.
If you went into this experience thinking Hytale was basically a Minecraft mod, then you’d be very wrong. Not only does this expand on the main systems of Minecraft, but it also fleshes out the world with incredible environments and shiny new ores.

9 Games to Play if You Love Hytale
Blocky or realistic, survival or combat, there are plenty of games that match Hytale's distinct vibe.
These ores and the crafting system that they inhabit are one of the most fascinating things about Hytale. So let’s take a look at each ore and just how to get our hands on them.
Copper Ore
Copper Ore is the most basic metal material that you’re going to use. And naturally, as the first and weakest, you can find this ore pretty much anywhere. From the overworld to shallow caves found in the main Emerald Grove, and even scattered about various other biomes.
While Copper Ore is certainly useful in the early game, once you find Iron, you’re going to be getting rid of this metal pretty darn quickly.
But that doesn’t mean Copper is useless going forward. In fact, you’re going to be using this a lot when upgrading your workbenches and unlocking new items. So whenever you see some Copper, you might as well mine it. It never hurts to be stocked.
Iron Ore
Iron Ore is one step up from Copper, being slightly more difficult to find and also more powerful in pretty much every regard.
While you can still find iron on the surface, around abandoned mines, and on top of snowy mountains, you’re more likely to find iron a bit further below the ground, in naturally occurring caves in the Emerald Groves, or beneath the Azure area.
Iron is the last Ore you’re going to be able to use to craft items with before upgrading your workbench and Blacksmithing table, so it’s worth crafting a full set of armour and weapons before going out on a big adventure. Similar to copper, iron ingots are used frequently in upgrading workstations, so having a good supply of these is also helpful.
Gold and Silver Ore
These metals can usually be found relatively close to each other. There are a couple of places that you’ll want to look to farm these efficiently. By far the best place is atop the snowy mountains in the Boreal Biome.
You’ll know you’re in the right place when you see those burning Yetis everywhere. Because the rock is pretty dark here, the gold and silver colours will contrast pretty heavily, making them easy to find, even from a distance.
While these ores don’t usually spawn in thick veins like the others, because they’re so easy to see, you won’t have a difficult time getting a few stacks of these every time you venture out to the snowy peaks. These ores can also be found underground, but they are far rarer there and more difficult to spot.
Gold and Silver are a little bit different from the rest of the Ores. Instead of using these to create Physical Weapons and Armour, you can instead place an Arcanist’s Workbench and use these bars to create magical weaponry.
Thorium Ore
Thorium is the first major upgrade over Iron, and the first that you’ll need Tier 2 Workbenches to be able to craft.
Despite this, Thorium is still pretty common and can be farmed most effectively by heading over to the Desert Biome. However, not every area in the desert will spawn ores. If you don’t want to head underground, you can find veins of Thorium on the surface of the Badlands Biome. This area is darker and infested with those venom-inflicting Wasp enemies.
Simply look at the tall cliffs and focus on any flashes of green. If this doesn’t work, then the caves beneath this area also spawn a good amount of Thorium, so feel free to check there too.
Cobalt Ore
Cobalt is on a similar level to Thorium, being almost a side-grade. You can also craft items made from Cobalt on Tier 2 workbenches.
If you want to find Cobalt, you’d best head over to the closest Boreal Biome and start looking there. While Cobalt does occasionally spawn on the surface, it’s far more common in the frozen underground caves.
If you’re finding it hard to see the cobalt on the cave walls, try looking beneath the water. I’m not sure whether it’s confirmed, but Cobalt seems to spawn in much greater quantities and with more frequency when it’s under the water.
Look out for Essence of Ice while you’re here. You’re going to need a lot of it when upgrading your workstations in the near future.
Adamantite Ore
As one of the most powerful metals in Hytale, you might be thinking that Adamantite is going to be a royal pain to find, but oddly enough, this isn’t the case at all. In fact, the hardest bit about finding Adamantite is actually just getting to the biome in which it spawns.
This crimson coloured ore can be found in the Devastated Lands Biome, found far beyond the main circle of land where you initially spawn. This mega Biome has many sub-biomes within it, on the surface and below.

You won't see me for a week after Terraria updates.
Adamantite is mainly found on the surface of most Devastated Lands biomes, easily spotted for its red colouration. However, you can also find a lot of this ore in the towns and villages across the Biome. Often in High-Tier chests (gold), you’ll find a good amount of Adamantite along with armour pieces in Cobalt of Thorium rarity.
If you’ve dived into a volcano and come across the Jungle Biome below this area, you can also find Adamantite on the walls and ceilings. Just beware, as the mobs here hit extremely hard and often inflict poison.
Mithril Ore
While we can see Mithril Tools and weapons when scrolling through the options on our Workbenches, it doesn’t seem that Mithril has made it into the game just yet.
It’s likely that when the other worlds are released, found in the various Shrines and Forgotten Temples around the map, Mithril will be found in these new, dangerous Biomes. However, for now, Adamantite is the most powerful metal available.
