It's time to suit up! Gundam Rogue Orbit was announced by Bandai Namco on Friday during Summer Game Fest. The cinematic trailer suggests that the game will play like a mix of Armored Core and Monster Hunter — except you're killing giant aliens, robots, or a mix of the two. "Every breath taken is inside an armored shell," the trailer teases.

The game has a release window of 2027, and is being developed for PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X. The game is already prompting discourse, however. Some people are thrilled to get a new Gundam game of any kind, while others are debating whether it truly captures the essence of Gundam. Judge for yourself:

Bandai says that Rogue Orbit "is a daring new chapter in the GUNDAM saga, built as the perfect entry point for new players and a thrilling evolution for longtime fans." The developer promises fast, hard-hitting combat where "every fight rewards skill, mastery, and quick, decisive action."

It's not all about combat, though. This Gundam game promises to deliver a "cinematic story," possibly one that involves the pink-haired girl seen during the trailer. What I do know is, slashing a kaiju in two with a giant cybernetic sword looks like a grand time.

Bandai's been busy, it seems. Just last month, the company announced Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway sequel, The Sorcery of Nymph Circe. In May, Bandai Namco revealed that the Gundam franchise made more money last year than anime heavyweights like Dragon Ball Z and One Piece. The profits hail from a mix of toys and the success of the recent Gundam anime show.
