Zendaya Struggled Against A Boss In Spider-Man 2 And ‘Ultimately’ Needed Tom Holland’s Help

The stars of Spider-Man: Brand New Day are out doing press for the upcoming Marvel movie. During one of these recent interviews, MJ actress Zendaya revealed that she has played Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 with some help from Spider-Man himself, her husband Tom Holland.

In an interview with IGN Benelux, when asked if the Spider-Man movies take inspiration from Insomniac’s highly praised Spider-Man games, Zendaya and Holland started talking about their time playing the PS5 sequel, and in particular, called out one hard boss fight.

“I’m not very good at playing video games,” said Zendaya. “So I do the story mode, and I get very frustrated ‘cuz I want to play all by myself, and [Holland will] try to come and just like, ‘Let me help you.’ And I’m like, no, I need to do this on my own!”

Holland then pointed out one time when Zendaya’s dedication to playing Spider-Man 2 herself caused her an extreme amount of stress. It was during a boss fight against Mary-Jane late in Spider-Man 2’s story.

“She turns into like a…monster. And she was stressing me out,” said Zendaya.

“But Z had done it all herself,” added Holland, “And [she] wouldn’t share the controller because she was like, ‘I’ve come this far alone…I can’t let you do this.’”

“You can not help me,” Zendaya says she told Holland at the time. “But ultimately, I think you needed to help me because that was a really hard level.”

And you know what, to Zendaya’s credit, that is a tricky boss fight. I know I died at least a few times while trying to defeat the fast-moving and hard-hittin’ symbiote version of MJ. And my own wife struggled with that fight, too. So don’t feel too bad, Zendaya. Heck, if I were married to Spider-Man himself, I’d make him beat up all the tough bosses for me and I’d have a big smile on my face the whole time.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in theaters on July 31.
