10 FPS Games Coming in 2026 That You Should Pay Close Attention

2 hours ago 1

2026 is proving to be a very exciting and promising year for the first-person shooter genre of games as not only have previously established FPS titles like Overwatch 2 received expansive new updates, but several new FPS games have already launched to critical and financial acclaim.

For instance, despite delays and controversies, Bungie's Marathon reboot has proven to be a popular and engaging new entry in the ever-growing subgenre of extraction shooters, while Mouse: P.I. For Hire blended the gameplay of Doom with the aesthetics of early 20th century cartoons and noir film tropes.

However, there's still roughly eight more months of 2026 left, with dozens of intriguing FPS titles scheduled to release throughout the year, from new entries in beloved franchises to completely brand-new FPS IPs that may become instant classics.

Here are 10 upcoming FPS games that already deserve gamers' attention based on their development history, captivating world designs, gameplay features and innovations, and thought-provoking narratives.

Q2 2026

Dinosaurs and video games go together like peanut butter and jelly, but despite that great pairing, there haven't been that many outstanding dinosaur-focused games released since Dino Crisis aside from the fun but somewhat uneventful Jurassic World Evolution management sim titles.

Luckily, Flatrock Games hopes to rectify this vacancy with their upcoming first and third-person survival horror game Clawed, which is currently scheduled to launch by the end of June on Steam later this year.

Set in the rundown, Jurassic Park-like theme park Prehistoria on Veyra Island, Clawed has players embark on a covert solo or co-op mission to infiltrate the park to uncover its secrets whilst struggling to survive being hunted by predatory dinosaurs and other resurrected prehistoric creatures.

Fending off dinosaurs isn't the only thing to do in Clawed though, as players will also be able to solve complex puzzles, explore various biomes, take part in mini-games such as the Carnivore Chaos Shooting Range, and simply study non-violent dinosaurs from a far.

9 Far Far West

Westworld Gone Wild

Far Far West Game

Some of the best FPS games ever created are those that focus more on cooperative play with unique characteristics to help them stand out among other, typically militaristic FPS titles, with one such game being Evil Raptor's Far Far West.

Far Far West is a one-to-four-player co-op FPS centered around a crew of bounty-hunting robots and their mechanical horses as they set out to complete contracts for a local sheriff in haunted mines, storm-filled deserts, and 19th century-inspired saloons.

While this robot cowboy game will debut in less than a week in early access, Far Far West is already looking to be one of the most fun and impressive FPS titles of the year.

For one, this game was created by only eight people, but despite that, it features thrilling fights against giant ghost trains, floating cursed saloons, and other fantastical creatures, allows players to customize six shooters, Gatling guns, and spells, and will add more content such as new modes in the future.

8 Frostrail

Surviving on Frozen Tracks

FPS games commonly take place in futuristic sci-fi or somewhat realistic military settings of the past, but only a few are set in frigid wastelands with trains as their centerpiece, such as FakeFish's upcoming FPS survival game, Frostrail.

The perfect blend of 7 Days to Die, Choo-Choo Charles, and Snowpiercer, Frostrail has solo or co-op players struggle to survive in a once great empire that was turned into a frozen wasteland following the Emperor's pact with a mysterious entirety known as the Void.

This pact caused zombie-like revenants and other eldritch horrors to fill the land, forcing the land's remaining inhabitants to scavenge the land for food and weapons and repair trains powered by the powerful Eden Engine in order to survive.

While Frostrail is still months away from debuting in an early-access state, a playtest will become available soon, allowing players to try out the game for themselves and see if this snow-filled apocalyptic game can become the next major survival game on PC.

7 The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu

A Promising New Horror Adventure

The Mound Omen of Cthulhu FPS Gameplay
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu

Sometimes the best games out there are those that allow people to play and experience horrifying wonders together as they struggle to survive against monstrous, seemingly unconquerable terrors.

One such upcoming title is ACE Team's FPS horror game The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, which has players embody Spanish explorers as they're sent out to find a missing person, locate an ancient, mysterious fort, and recover as much treasure as they can on a supernatural, jungle-covered island.

The Mound can be played solo, but it's intended to be played in up to four player co-op, as Lovecraftian entities will not only cause zombie-like and tentacle-wielding creatures to hunt the expedition, but they'll also cause each individual player-character to slowly go insane and see visions.

For example, players may see an ancient artifact in an area only for it to turn into a spiked trap as they step near, while others may begin to hallucinate and see one of their fellow explorers as a monster, resulting in them accidentally shooting them or getting into heated arguments and standoffs.

6 Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core

Reclaiming Hoxxes' Mines

Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core

Ghost Ship Games' cooperative, galactic mining, dwarf-focused game Deep Rock Galactic was a stellar multiplayer hit of the early 2020s and while DRG remains a highly popular co-op game today, GSG will test veteran miners soon in an entirely different genre: roguelite.

Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core is DRG's second spinoff slated to launch on Wednesday, May 20th, with the game being an FPS roguelite centered around the elite dwarven security force known as the Reclaimers as they're dispatched to Hoxxes to investigate the mysterious shutdown of the planet's mines in an even called The Grayout.

Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core can still be played in four-player co-op, but this time, players can only begin missions with basic equipment, requiring players to scavenge mines for better gear and upgrades as they travel through each mission while character progression is carried over throughout playthroughs.

Essentially, Rogue Core will be a far more challenging version of DRG, with enemies and obstacles becoming increasingly difficult the longer players stick around in missions, pushing players to work as efficient and reliable teams in order to survive the deadly Core Spawn.

5 Animal Use Protocol

A Potential Successor to Alien: Isolation

2026

Many fantastic horror games are played from the first-person perspective, with one of the best being Creative Assembly's Alien: Isolation and while the British developer is working on a sequel to Isolation, another successor to the sci-fi horror game may be found in Brotherhood Games' Animal Use Protocol.

Animal Use Protocol has players walk in the prehensile feet of the hyper-intelligent chimpanzee called Penn as he and a hyper-intelligent mouse called Trip struggle to escape a nightmarish testing facility and free other lab animals.

Instead of hiding from a Xenomorph, however, Penn and Trip will need to keep an eye out for gigantic, near-invulnerable mutated and deformed creatures which can instantly end their quest for liberation if players aren't careful.

The only tools at players' disposal to survive are Penn and Trip's wits and their handy gravity manipulation tool, which can hurl objects at foes or be used for puzzle solving, making AUP an FPS game any horror and Planet of the Apes fans should look out for later this year.

4 Halo: Campaign Evolved

Return to Alpha Halo

Without a doubt, one of the most popular and influential FPS game franchises of all time is Halo and with 2026 being the 25th anniversary of Halo, Microsoft is celebrating the milestone in a momentous way by launching Halo: Campaign Evolved on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation simultaneously for the first time later this year.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is a remake of 2001's Halo: Combat Evolved, allowing fans new and old to once again step into the Mjolnir Mark V super-soldier boots of Master Chief as he and the crew of the UNSC Pillar of Autumn crash onto the mysterious ringworld of Alpha Halo and fight the alien Covenant.

While most of Campaign Evolved's core story, level design, and gameplay will remain true to the original, it will feature numerous controversial and exciting changes that will entice players, such as the addition of sprint, weapons from other Halo games, and three prequel missions following Master Chief and Sgt. Avery Johnson.

One of Campaign Evolved's most polarizing features is the absence of traditional PvP multiplayer that helped make the franchise so popular in the first place, but to help rectify this issue, Halo Studios has implemented four-player co-op into CE, allowing squads of four Spartans to explore Installation 04 together for the first time.

3 Turok: Origins

The Comeback of a Beloved Series

As mentioned before, dinosaurs and video games are a perfect pairing, with one of the greatest franchises to blend the two being Turok and, after a seven-year-long absence, the series is finally expected to return later this year in Turok: Origins.

The franchise's second reboot, Turok: Origins will have players embody Native American Turok warriors solo or in co-op as they set off to fight monstrous dinosaurs and aliens in the mysterious Lost Lands.

Much like its predecessors, Origins will feature both the traditional first-person gameplay and third-person options as players wield plasma rifles, ray guns, bows, melee weapons, and new magic-like DNA powers against the Lost Lands' dangerous inhabitants.

Origins doesn't have an exact release date yet, but it's expected to launch this Fall on every major gaming platform, finally giving young gamers a chance to explore the fantastical world of Turok for the first time.

2 Clockwork Revolution

Xbox's Most Promising New IP in Years

Xbox Games We Hope Don't Get Cancelled - Clockwork Revolution

2026 is a pivotal year for Xbox as it's not only the brand's 25th anniversary, but it will also see the return of landmark Xbox franchises with Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day, and Playground Games' Fable reboot.

However, this year is additionally expected to see Xbox launch several brand-new franchises, with one of the most promising being InXile Entertainment's first-person, single-player, action RPG, Clockwork Revolution.

Set in the steampunk, automaton-filled city of Avalon, Clockwork Revolution has players embody the customizable Morgan Vanette as they inevitably acquire a forest-mounted, reality-warping time machine and use it to survive shootouts and alter the past in order to free the city from the tyrannical Lady Ironwood or to put themselves in a position of power.

Clockwork Revolution is essentially the perfect mixture of BioShock Infinite's reality-warping mechanics and setting with the gameplay features of Fallout, and while there's no exact release date for Revolution this year, it's already proven to be one of the most intriguing titles Xbox Game Studios has produced in years.

1 Metro 2039

The Legacy of Moscow's Tunnels

metro-2039-press-reveal-image-2.jpg

All of the aforementioned FPS titles rightfully deserve players' attention, but there's one surprising game that everyone should be following, with that game being 4A Games Metro 2039.

A follow-up to 2019's Metro Exodus, Metro 2039 has players return to Moscow's metro tunnels seen in the first two Metro games not as series protagonist Artyom, but rather as a brand-new reclusive character known only as the Stranger as he's forced to face the ghosts of his past and return to the tunnels now under the tyrannical rule of the Novoreich regime.

Compared to Exodus, 2039 is a more back-to-basics Metro title as it has a renewed emphasis on claustrophobic, survival horror elements with the Stranger being forced to fight irradiated mutant animals in the tunnels and the wasteland on the surface while encountering the telepathic Dark Ones.

What makes 2039 especially notable is that 4A Games developed it during Russia's ongoing invasion and war with Ukraine, with 4A being partially located in Kyiv, Ukraine and the studio using the wartime experience to make 2039's themes center around the horrors of tyranny and the price of freedom.
