2026's Most Disturbing Game Has Been Rated For Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo was once known as the most conservative of the console makers, enforcing all kinds of censorship in games, as part of its family-friendly image. That persona changed over time, especially as Nintendo's competitors began outselling it with titles that appealed to older age groups. Now, the Nintendo eShop has all kinds of violent games, with AI-slop borderline adult depictions of women in the thumbnails.

It seems that the Nintendo Switch 2 will go further than any system before it, as an ESRB rating has been released for Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival, an upcoming title set in the Hellraiser movie universe, which is poised to be 2026's most graphic and unsettling game.

Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival is an upcoming first-person horror/action game in which the player takes on the role of Aidan, a regular guy whose girlfriend opens the Genesis Configuration, a new kind of mystical box that summons the Cenobites. These demonic beings take Aidan's lady away, and he has to learn the secrets of the Genesis Configuration in order to save her.

The initial trailers for Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival have shown incredibly violent and provocative imagery, in keeping with the Hellraiser movies. The Hellraiser franchise is up there with the most bloody movie series of all time, and it's surprising it has taken this long for it to receive a dedicated video game.

It bears mentioning that Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival still lacks a release date on any platform. If the ESRB rating is accurate, then it'll be coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.

While it's possible that this age rating could hint at a Nintendo Direct, there's little chance that Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival would appear. At best, it would be kept to the quick scrawl of upcoming releases, as even the more open-minded Nintendo of 2026 isn't going to show Pinhead tearing people apart with chains in between Mario Tennis and Kirby trailers.
