Resident Evil Requiem has a lot of secrets, and they don't all require you to beat the game or gather a bunch of challenge points to purchase items from the special content shop. Some of the secrets are callbacks to earlier games in the franchise.

If you haven't played all the mainline Resident Evil games or some of the spin-off titles, you might not have caught some of the best callbacks in Requiem. Trust us, there are a lot of moments, items, and details that connect Resident Evil Requiem to past titles in a meaningful way.

9 Zombie Wants a Snack

And He Won't Get It

Resident Evil Requiem Callbacks Vending Machine Zombie

Think back to Resident Evil 2. While there were many zombies that were interested in taking a bite out of Leon, one seemingly didn't care.

This zombie walked his way over to the vending machine, fixed his gaze on one of the many snacks inside, and started hitting the machine, hoping to get something to drop out.

Many years later, when you reach the Raccoon City Police Department, there is still a zombie hitting the vending machine. This zombie only appears if you make your way back down the hallway, but it is a nice little callback to the original game starring Leon Kennedy.

8 Wellcome Leon

With Two L's

Resident Evil Requiem Callbacks Wellcome Leon Sign

The original Resident Evil 2 game had a minor spelling mistake that you might not have known about. When you reach the police department, there is a sign that reads "Wellcome Leon," and welcome is spelled with two L's.

This minor mistake made its way into the Resident Evil 2 Remake, where the second L can be found lying around the police station. It was a fun nod to the original game.

In Resident Evil Requiem, this mistake receives another callback. When you enter the police station, the welcome sign can be found in the main entrance, and the missing L can be found in the west office.

7 Rising Rookie Rebecca

Wesker is Weird

Resident Evil Requiem Callbacks Leon in Library

Another callback to the original Resident Evil 2 title is the Rising Rookie Rebecca photo. Originally, this took quite a bit of work to find.

The difficulty is somewhat captured in Resident Evil Requiem, as this photo receives a callback in one of Barry's scavenger hunts. If you read Barry's to-do list, you will find out that a book was checked out of the library.

Eventually, this information will lead you to find a note in Wesker's office. This will then lead you to the book in the library that holds this photo.

6 Cute Bear Charm

Ada's Mark

Resident Evil Requiem Callbacks Cute Bear Charm

Resident Evil 2 may have been where Leon got his start, but it wasn't the best game he was in. Many remember Resident Evil 4 much more than the second game, and a big part of it is because of Leon and Ada's relationship.

At the end of Resident Evil 4, Ada escapes, but not before tossing Leon a set of keys. These keys have a bear charm on them that Leon calls cute.

In one of the few callbacks to Resident Evil 4, the Cute Bear Charm makes an appearance as one of the charms you can equip on your gear in Resident Evil Requiem. A cute reminder of Ada and what could have been.

5 Hunk

He Always Survives

Resident Evil Requiem Callbacks Hunk Ready to Fight

Nicknamed "Hunk," this legendary soldier always survives and is willing to do whatever it takes to finish a mission. He first appeared in Resident Evil 2, and has since appeared in a few other games, but his last appearance was in Resident Evil Revelations 2.

When you run into Hunk in Resident Evil Requiem, he plays the role of a boss, requiring you to defeat him to progress the story. Don't worry, his story might not end here.

If you leave the boss's room after defeating Hunk and then return, you will see that his body is gone. This is a great callback to him always surviving the mission, and it leaves the door open for his return.

4 X Gonna Give it to Ya

Another Tyrant Comes Forth

Resident Evil Requiem Callbacks Tyrant Before Fight

Mr. X is one of those antagonists that everyone remembers. Well, at least those who played Resident Evil 2 remember him and how he would royally screw up your playthrough if you weren't careful.

Don't worry, Mr. X isn't back in Resident Evil Requiem, but a tyrant that looks exactly like him is, and it messes with Leon. What makes this callback so great is that Leon looks visibly bothered by the Tyrant's appearance.

3 The Connections

Making Connections

Resident Evil Requiem Callbacks Zeno Holding Vile

Revealed at the end of Resident Evil Requiem, Zeno and Victor Gideon are working with The Connections — an international crime organization that specializes in using bioweapons.

In Resident Evil 7, the Connections are revealed, and it is shown that the group is responsible for Eveline and, in turn, the Baker House incident.

This callback shows that The Connections is a bigger threat than originally thought. Of course, we will need to see where it goes now that both Zeno and Gideon are dead, and Elpis has been released.

2 The Wolves

Here Comes Chris

Resident Evil Requiem Callbacks Hound Wolf Squad Member

The Hound Wolf Squad makes an appearance at the very end of Resident Evil Requiem, and it is a callback to multiple games in the series. Mostly Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village.

Chris Redfield created this elite task force after the BSAA covered up the Baker House Incident and hid their failure to kill Eveline. With that being said, the Hound Wolf Squad has made an appearance in the last two games in the series.

Now that it is confirmed that they are in Resident Evil Requiem, it is only a matter of time before Chris makes a reappearance. Maybe he will teach Leon how to punch boulders.

1 Kendo

The Saddest Moment

Resident Evil Requiem Callbacks Gun Shop

In Resident Evil 2, you get to meet the owner of the Kendo Gun Shop. It turns out that his daughter is infected, and you get to listen as gunshots ring out.

It is, by far, the saddest moment in all the Resident Evil games, and a moment that has stuck with many over the years. This moment receives a touching callback after you go through the police department.

Leon sees the remains of the man and his daughter and is reminded of how he couldn't do anything to save them. It is another moment that is sure to be remembered for years to come.
