Like most survival games, your inventory in Subnautica 2 is extremely important. Most of your time is going to be spent either exploring or harvesting bits and pieces found all about the ocean, so making the most of your carrying capacity is pretty crucial.

But just how do we go about improving our inventory size? Luckily, you can almost double your inventory slots by finding and interacting with Biobeds that are scattered around the world. Thankfully, all of these Biobeds are located in the very first main region of the game, so you can fully unlock your inventory slots and hotbar pretty early on!

Prepare for trouble! And make it double!

Let’s take a look at all 7 locations and how to find the Biobeds so we can start our adventure off strong!

Welcome Centre Cave Biobed

  • +3 Inventory Space

This location is really close to spawn, so it may be the first you come across. Directly east of the Welcome Centre, located right next to spawn, you’ll find a series of caves.

Most hideout locations are marked by a tall, blue man-made lamp. More often than not, these lights will be located outside a cave entrance, indicating that something is within. Following these lights will lead to the hideout, and within, the inventory upgrade.

From the image above, swim forward into the cave and past the large column of flowing water. You’ll find yourself in a long horizontal cave. From here, swim east until you see the blue man-made light, and head on through the tunnel. Here you’ll see another map and the entrance to the hideout.

Crater Biobed

  • +3 Inventory Space

This is another easy location and one that’s pretty close to spawn. Start directly from the lifepod and swim Southwest until you reach the huge Crater. This crater is where you actually start the game, but you can’t reach the bottom without some improvements to your gear.

On the western edge of the crater, you’ll notice a large Cicada Wreck; you can ignore this for now. Instead, turn your attention to the north, and you’ll see the bright crimson ring of the hideout entrance glowing in the dark.

Rock Column Biobed

  • +3 Inventory Space

This is a really easy one to get early. This location is southeast of the Welcome Centre or directly east of the large Crater. You can easily spot the entrance by the huge stone column sticking out of the water. Specifically, it’s the rock with 3 prongs sticking up.

Swim down to the man-made light, and you’ll notice a large circular hole around the rock column. The entrance to the next hideout is directly below the blue lamp. Swim down and double back on yourself to find the next Biobed.

Coral Tower Biobed

  • +1 Quick Use Slot

While this hideout is really close to spawn, it can be a bit of a pain to find, seeing as though you’ll need to head down through a bunch of caves. This spot, if you don’t know where you’re going, can be very confusing. So it makes sense to have at least 1 Oxygen tank upgrade, as well as a Tadpole waiting outside, or an Air Bladder for emergencies.

If you want, try heading in and out of the cave a couple of times so you get your bearings. This will help in case you run low on oxygen and need to make a quick getaway.

Head about 140m north of the Lifepod, slightly west of the Angel Comb, and you’ll see a large tower of bright Orange Coral. Head to the base of the structure, and you’ll find a blue light and a cave entrance.

Head down, dashing past the Toxic Sponge. At the bottom, follow the blue mushroom-like plants and head into the next cave. Here, take a right, towards the large Pink Cabbage Shortroot. You’ll spot a small crack leading to another cave.

Go forward, and keep swimming until you see a blue man-made lamp. Here you can swim down, and you’ll see the red entrance to another hideout directly below.

Plateau Biobed

  • +3 Inventory Space

This one is far easier than the previous base. Firstly, head over to the Old Habitat base. The cave entrance in the picture above is located directly east. You’ll know you’re in the right place when you’re in front of the gigantic jellyfish draped over the rock.

Simply swim through the opening with the man-made lamp and go directly down. The entrance is located on your left at the bottom of the chasm.

Hot Region Cicada Wreck Biobed

  • +3 Inventory Space

To enter into the hot waters east of the Lifepod, you’ll first need the Heat Adaptation from the Angel Comb west of the starting zone.

Adapt or perish, now as ever, is nature's inexorable imperative.

Once you have this, head over to the huge Cicada wreck in the Graveyard Biome. You’ll find the entrance on the northern side. Swim through the open door, take a left and then another left, and you’ll find yourself in front of another Biobed. There are only 4 rooms in this entire wreck, so there’s no way you’ll get lost.

Hot Region Nahema’s Lab Biobed

  • +1 Quick Use Slot

As soon as you’ve found the wreck Biobed, you can head directly southwest towards the next location. This is also within the hot region of the ocean.

The best way to find this location is to go directly northeast of the large hole in the ground, which leads to the Hot Cave Basecamp. This cave entrance isn’t marked with a blue light like the others, but luckily, the cave isn’t long at all, meaning you can actually see the hideout entrance from outside the cave.
