Amazon is ending its Luna storefront, and you might've already seen the news along with the panic it's causing about digital ownership of games. The concern is that the end of Amazon Luna means that anybody who purchased games through this storefront is going to lose access to them without refunds, and it's a valid concern, as this would likely be the case if Steam was the store in question.

April 2026 PlayStation Plus Extra Leak Features A Revamped Classic
Some of the PlayStation Plus Extra leaks for April 2026 have made their way online and they include a remastered version of one of the best PS4 games.
However, Amazon Luna functions differently than Steam. So, the effects of Luna ending aren't as dire as some people make it out to be. The truth is much less sinister, and not the digital disaster for game ownership that it's being turned into. It's more like a separation from third-party options rather than a deletion of games from players' libraries.
Why Players Are Panicking About the End of Amazon Luna's Third-Party Options
Essentially, some people are believing and spreading the belief that the third-party games purchased via Luna will now be inaccessible and that no refunds will be provided. Considering Amazon's reputation and layoffs impacting gaming in other ways, it makes sense that people would jump to the most dire conclusion with the announcement about Luna's changes.
The main concern with Luna no longer offering the purchase of third-party games à la carte or letting you subscribe to third-party services like Ubisoft+ and Jackbox games is that you'll lose access to those third-party games permanently and not get a refund. That's not the truth if you actually look at Amazon's post about the changes directly. The actual changes are about Luna moving away from third-party options to focus on Luna Premium.
What the Amazon Luna Changes Actually Look Like in Practice
Yes, it's true that you won't be able to access your third-party games through Luna anymore. However, you'll be able to access those games through the third-party account you had to link to Luna to purchase the game. As an example, if you purchased a game from EA on Luna, then you'll be able to continue playing that game through EA directly after these changes to Luna's services go into effect. You aren't getting refunds because you aren't losing the games. You're only losing access to them through Luna, which is fundamentally different from losing the game entirely.

You just have to change what you play them through. You'll also be able to download any save files from the games you played on Luna through the settings page, and you have 90 days starting on June 10, 2026, to grab any save files you want to keep. Once the 90-day period is over, you'll lose access to the save files you might've had for games played through Luna, and you'll need to start over in the game if you return to it later.
In addition to this change and the removal of third-party subscription options, Luna is also removing the Bring Your Own Library function that lets you import games to play through Luna, similar to Steam's option to add non-Steam games. While these changes could certainly be frustrating for players, they aren't taking away anything that you can't access directly through the third-party used to purchase it initially. In essence, Luna is just disconnecting itself from third-party options to focus on Luna Premium.
Luna will still exist, and Luna Premium will continue to be a subscription option that offers you a rotating library of games that are available to play, similar to options like Game Pass. The only impact these changes have are those removing third-party game options, but you aren't losing access to your purchased games without getting a refund, which is the information being incorrectly spread. You'll have all your digital content, and you can subscribe to the same subscriptions, but you just won't be able to do so through Amazon Luna.
