Whenever I'm playing Forza Horizon, there's a handful of cars that I tend to fall in love with. Not necessarily because they're the best cars the game has to offer, but because they're the ones that give me the best chance to win.

As much as I love racing games, I'm a realistic person; I am not the best person at them. You're not going to find me with a fancy home set-up, and if I'm playing online, there's a good chance I'm being left in the dust. That's not going to stop me from having a good time, though.

When it comes to Forza Horizon 6, there were a handful of cars I gravitated toward quite quickly, as they were not only easy to master but also forgiving, compensating for my shortcomings as a driver. If you're someone like me who has always struggled with "the best cars" in these types of games, but are looking for something you can still win with, then I highly recommend these four beginner-friendly cars in Forza Horizon 6.

After progressing through the campaigns and spending the past few weeks with the game, these are the cars I've repeatedly used across the board and have been upgrading as well. If I were starting the game from scratch, these are the four cars I'd immediately rush to obtain.

1994 Toyota Celica GT-4 ST205

1994 Toyota Celica GT-4 ST205

The Celica GT-4 ST205 is one of three cars to choose from when you first start your Forza Horizon 6 journey. It's akin to picking your first Pokémon back in the day, so it's a pretty important choice. Well, it appears as such; you'll have access to all three cards regardless, but hey, it's still fun to choose!

While I understand the strengths of the GMC Jimmy, I quickly picked the Celica and never looked back for one simple reason: its all-around strengths. Yes, a car like the Jimmy is a great off-road option, but the Celica has superior all-around stats that help it pull away from the pack and never look back. It also handles like a dream regardless of your terrain.

It's important to get your bearings as you begin the Forza Horizon journey, and the GT-4 ST205's ability to be a jack-of-all-trades makes it the best option when starting Forza Horizon 6. It's fast, it handles well, and your default braking lets you slow down and take those corners with ease.

My early goal in any Forza Horizon game is always to win as many races as possible. I make it a mission to see how quickly the game will recommend raising the difficulty level of other drivers, and the car that gives me the best chance to do that is the Celica GT-4 ST205. Perhaps my favorite thing, though, is that coming back to it after progressing through the game is like riding a bike; it performs so well that, at times, it feels like a cheat code.

2001 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII GSR TM Edition

I'm not sure what it was about Forza Horizon 6 and your early wristband events being more rally-centric, but it's something you'll have to deal with. So wouldn't you like a car that has a little more juice under the hood that thrives in those conditions?

Look no further than the Mitsubishi Lancer, which comes in more than one option. I'm picking the Evolution VII GSR TM Edition for one simple reason: it represents a natural step up in raw power (it's a B-class car, making it a good choice as you progress through the Horizon campaign) that will handle like the Celica but also acts as an entry-point to the more powerful cars we'll discuss later on.

Forza Horizon 6: 8 Tips and Tricks We Wish We Knew Sooner

Here's everything you need to know before hitting the open road in Forza Horizon 6.

The biggest thing with the Lancer Evolution VII, though, is how well it can take turns. Whether you're on a dirt path, a main street, a highway, or what have you, this thing hugs the corners exceptionally well. It's also an impressive option for drifting. Taking those tight corners on road races will still be the ideal way to go, but in a rally environment, intelligent drifting will let you shave precious time off your laps and pull off impressive passes.

Even as I added in superior cars to my garage, I kept coming back to the Lancer Evolution VII. It nails the most important part about how it handles, being incredibly fun to drive. It also performs quite well when you're running through drift zones, and was often my car of choice for those PR stunts.

2016 Jeep Trailcat

One of my biggest struggles in Forza Horizon 6 was dealing with the Cross Country events as I rose the ranks.

I had access to better cars, which meant it was finally time to leave behind the Lancer and Celica. Of course, I could have upgraded them, but what's the fun in playing a game with hundreds of cars if you're not trying something new?

This was undoubtedly the tier I tinkered with the most, trying out dozens of cars. Eventually, I found the 2016 Jeep Trailcat. It wasn't too hot, nor too cold; it was just right. Too many other cars didn't handle well enough on the off-road terrain, or lacked a sufficient top speed, or didn't brake as effectively as I would have liked.

Not the Trailcat, though. This thing gets it done and then some. The excellent handling, combined with efficient top speed when you're on a straightaway, means that other drivers aren't going to randomly pass you by, nor will some of those tricky off-road turns throw you for a loop. It was a huge night and day difference in my performance. Where I was struggling to even podium at times, doing everything I could to make up for my car's shortcomings, the Trailcat consistently leads me to victory.

At some point, you're going to end up needing to go as fast as Ricky Bobby, especially when doing street races. Now, if you're anything like me, as you get behind the wheel of the higher-end cars, you quickly learn that these things do not handle anything like the cars most people are familiar with. They're quite loose, and one wrong move means you're spinning out of control. Thankfully, Forza has the Rewind feature, but still, I'd like a car that goes fast but still has me feeling somewhat in control. The 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto has me covered.

One of the easiest ways to climb through the Discover Japan ranks and unlock all of the barn finds in Forza Horizon 6 is to do street races. You're going to need a suitable supercar to do well in them, which means you're going to, at one point or another, get behind the wheel of these highly powerful cars. At times, this can feel intimidating, but the Revuelto removes that intimidation factor.

There's still a period of adjustment as you get accustomed to how the car handles, but compared to the other supercars out there, it's a night-and-day difference. This thing handles like a dream and has plenty of horsepower to boot, which means you'll be able to successfully take those tight corners and pull away during extended straightaways.

These are all things you'll need to accomplish if you want to hang with the big guns on more competitive events, and for beginners, the 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto is your best bet to do just that. On the surface, yes, it seems silly recommending such an exotic car for beginners, but at some point, you're going to have to utilize it. The 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto quickly became my favorite car in the entire game.
