Eric has been a gaming fan ever since getting an original Xbox for Christmas in the early 2000's. From then on, he has become enthralled in the gaming world, spending thousands of hours in Halo multiplayer matches, climbing dozens of towers across the Assassin's Creed games, and 100% perfecting every single Horizon game to date.

When not writing for DualShockers Eric can typically be found playing games on his PS5, PC, and Xbox or reading sci-fi, horror, and fantasy books/comics.

Unlike many other zombie-centric games, John Carpenter's Toxic Commando diversifies its gameplay by not only featuring a variety of vehicles to use and special infected to fight, but also features alternate classes.

Currently, there are only four classes available in Toxic Commando, each with their own unique abilities and perks, including the fireball-throwing Strike, the drone-utilizing Operator, the barrier deploying Defender, and the healing Medic.

While the Medic may sound a bit unextraordinary compared to the other classes, the Medic is actually one of the most versatile and helpful classes to play in Toxic Commando, both in single-player and in co-op.

Reasons to Play as the Medic

Like all of the other classes in Toxic Commando, the Medic class can be leveled up to level 40 throughout the game, though it will likely take players multiple playthroughs of the game and its missions for players to reach level 40 for just one class.

Toxic Commando's gameplay is primarily centered around overwhelming hordes of zombies and players searching throughout areas to loot Spare Parts, power weapons, and health, with medkits being an especially scare resource even on lower difficulties.

This is where Medic class players become particularly handy, as Medics can repeatedly temporarily or permanently heal themselves and their allies depending on their level.

For solo players, choosing the Medic class makes finding medkits relatively unnecessary on lower difficulties but becomes absolutely necessary to use on higher difficulties, as medkits will quickly disappear, making the Medic's healing abilities the only consistent way to heal during and after battles.

Of course, players can simply play as any of the other classes and just rely on the ambulance's healing ability and limited number of medkits to heal, but the ambulance isn't available in every mission and some missions require players to use other specific vehicles, making the emergency vehicle unreliable.

The Best Medic Build

As essentially a support class, the best way to play as a Medic is by utilizing powerful weapons with high fire rates and deal a lot of damage, such as the MINI-21 assault rifle, Geist 17 handgun, and the hatchet.

These weapons will help clear out hordes of enemies and give players time to heal themselves and others, though having the Left 4 Dead Boomer Bile-like bait grenade would help keep zombies away for a bit while the Medic heals themselves or others.

Eventually, Medic players will be able to carry more and more medkits as they level up, but Medics should strive to carry some reviving stimulants to help incapacitated teammates.

In regard to the special abilities tied to the Medic class, these special abilities include:

  • Healing Aura, which creates a small zone of gold, temporary health
  • Trauma Center, which creates a small zone that will permanently heal a bit of anyone who steps in it
  • Emergency Aid, which immediately restores 100% of permanent health to themselves and nearby allies
  • Remote Treatment, which allows the Medic to launch orbs that temporarily heal allies

For most scenarios, I would recommend using Emergency Aid as it's the most helpful ability out of the bunch for both solo and co-op playthroughs, though in chaotic instances where teammates are far apart from one another, Remote Treatment is a good second choice.

I would additionally prioritize upgrading the Invigoration branch to help increase the amount of energy teammates can recover while being healed by the Medic's abilities and the Purification branch, as that would cause zombies to get slightly damaged within the Medic's healing zones.
