Covering the video games industry since 2017, with experience in news, articles, lists, and reviews (and I blame The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for that).

If you are a fan of RPGs and want a third-person version: Tayná Garcia is a Brazilian journalist (but you can call her Tay) who ended up working with video games after finishing Zelda: Majora's Mask when she was a kid. With more than eight years of experience in the segment, she has been an assistant editor at Jovem Nerd in the past and is currently a contributor at DualShockers and a writer for gaming magazines for Editora Europa. Oh, and she may like Hideo Kojima a bit too much.

Scott Pilgrim EX is a beat ‘em up title that features a beefy roster of seven playable characters, each bringing their own unique abilities. However, there is a catch that might catch newcomers off guard: every character comes with their own individual wallet.

In a game where your strength, defense, and speed are directly tied to the items and meals you buy in local shops, managing your finances becomes just as important as mastering your combos.

And this means swapping characters mid-journey isn't always practical, since if you decide to bench Scott for Ramona or try out one of the newly playable Evil Exes, you will find yourself starting from scratch, forced to level up and earn cash all over again to make them viable for the late-game challenges. So, if you aren't careful enough, this can lead to tedious grinding through a repetitive cycle.

Luckily, there are a few faster (and also more fun, I promise) ways to make all the money you need and even a little extra to avoid any unnecessary repetitiveness. You will be able to fill those wallets before you can even finish reciting an iconic Scott Pilgrim line like: "A gig is a gig is a gig, is a gig!" From hidden shop items to repeatable high-reward quests, here is exactly how to line your pockets in the streets of Toronto.

Method 1: The Honest Farm

Scott Pilgrim EX How to Earn Money Fast 1-1

The most straightforward way to earn cash in Scott Pilgrim EX is by seeking out specific combat zones with a high number of enemies. Unlike the original 2010 title, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, where only certain foes would drop coins, literally every single enemy in this version drops money after defeating them, so you just need to find the most crowded stages.

Before you start, however, you need the right gear to boost your gains. So progress until you reach the Shopping Area (it is available quite early in the game, right at the beginning of Chapter 2: On the Beach). Then, enter the second shop from the left, Honest Ex’s, and buy the Big Nickel ($14.95) and the Coin Block ($12.95).

They are both Badges and, since you can equip only two of them in a character, do that, since they are crucial to buff your coin farming. Here is the description of what exactly they can do:

  • Big Nickel: Increases the value of all dropped coins by 5 cents.
  • Coin Block: Grants you 5 cents every time you perform a "Just Guard" (blocking right as an attack hits, meaning that timing is everything!).

Once both are equipped, head to the Movie Studio, an area that is unlocked literally after completing Chapter 1: Metal Scott Underground, which serves as a tutorial, so you can also go there quite early in the game.

The Movie Studio is actually split into three areas: the exterior (where there are two car parking turnstiles), the backstage of the movie set (where you can find Envy, a dressing room, and a couple of crew members), and the actual filming set (where Knives’ father is cheering for someone).

You need to focus on the first two areas (the exterior and the backstage), since they consistently spawn large waves of enemies. And there is also a bonus: these areas scale with your progress in the main story, making it the perfect farming spot regardless of which chapter you are currently playing, since the enemies are always updated with the new versions of enemies that you just met in the campaign.

Method 2: The Infinite Dice Quest

The second way is a bit more time-consuming but also more dynamic. Before we go into that, here's a pro tip: before heading straight to the main objective of each chapter, take a look around the map to see if any side quests have popped up. These quests are optional and are activated by speaking with NPCs who have a blue exclamation mark over their heads, and, most of the time, they reward you with coins, making it a less repetitive way to earn some cash.

There is one specific side quest, however, that you can redo to earn unlimited money, and this is our Method 2 of earning money fast in Scot Pilgrim EX.

You can find this quest quite early in the game. You just need to progress in the story until you unlock the Shopping Area, which becomes accessible in Chapter 2: On the Beach. Go there and find a locked door on the left side of the entrance to High Park. Now, you need a Golden Key to unlock it! These items are hidden inside some specific objects in the scenario, and you need to break them to find them.

The quickest one is found in the Movie Studio film set (also available in Chapter 2: On the Beach, where Envy and her dressing room are), and you need to break the wooden table on the far left to reveal it.

Take the Golden Key back to the locked door in the Shopping Area, then hit the interact button right in front of it to enter the Seventh Eleven, which is a hidden location. Speak to the Gobliin on the left to find out that he’s offering the "Roll the Die" side quest, but it costs $1 to play. So toss a coin at him to start (using the mechanic of throwing money or health on the ground).

In this quest, you need to grab and throw the dice until your total score reaches 50 points. However, the Gobliin will summon some demon hipster chicks to try to block your path and, if your die hits them, the number rolled is subtracted from your total.

So your strategy is to avoid the enemies entirely and focus on throwing the dice when no one is in front of you. If the screen gets too crowded, you can call in Young Neil as an Assist move (you can also use an Assist of your preference), since he clears the area instantly. And don’t forget to equip the Badges that I mentioned in Method 1 to boost your gains!

By completing the quest, you get a chest full of coins as a reward. When you add that to the coins dropped by the demon hipster chicks during the minigame, you can easily net more than $15 each time. And, if you master the tactic, you will be able to get over $100 in no time, especially since you can replay the quest as many times as you want. It is an alternative method for those who don't want to earn money just by defeating enemies, since the dice game is quite fun!

Method 3: The 96 Guys Gauntlet

Scott Pilgrim EX How to Earn Money Fast 3-1

This method yields the highest payout in the entire game, though it can only be done once and requires that you have progressed more in the main story of Scott Pilgrim EX.

You must first reach Chapter 5: Back to School and unlock the No-Account Video store in the Shopping Area to gain access to the School. When you get inside, defeat all the enemies, then go upstairs. Defeat all the enemies again, then break the garbage can that is near the stairs to find a Golden Key.

Now, go back downstairs and locate a locked door in the center of this hallway, so use your key to the Dojo, a hidden location where Simon Lee is offering the “Hell of Fighting 96 Guys” side quest.

As the name suggests, you must defeat 96 enemies in a row, without getting defeated. I know it sounds quite complicated, but don't worry about the difficulty of this task, since they are mostly "weak" versions of the Vegan Gang. So just be careful not to get cornered, and everything will be okay! Again, Young Neil, as your Assist move can be your best friend here – and, by the way, I find it hilarious how the character who is usually the most useless in Scott’s story is actually the most powerful Assist in the game!

Oh, and don’t forget to equip the Badges that I mentioned in Method 1 to boost your gains. While you can't replay this one like the dice game, the sheer amount of loot dropped by these weaker vegan enemies will absolutely fill your pockets. So make sure to do this side quest as soon as possible!
