The only thing harder than Ludwig, the Holy Blade is getting a Bloodborne update
Elden Ring developer FromSoftware doesn't want anyone else to remake Bloodborne, apparently — and that includes the soon-to-be-shuttered studio Bluepoint Games, according to a new report. Bluepoint reportedly pitched a Bloodborne remake to parent company Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2025, but the project was turned down by FromSoftware, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier's latest Game On newsletter reveals.
According to Schreier, when Bluepoint pitched a Bloodborne remake, it was told "that the numbers made sense but FromSoftware didn’t want it to happen." Bluepoint previously developed a remake of another FromSoft game, Demon's Souls for PlayStation 5.
A Bloodborne remake or remaster (or even a PlayStation 5 software update for the original PlayStation 4 game) has long been a request from fans — especially in the wake of Bluepoint's high-gloss work on Demon's Souls and remakes like Shadow of the Colossus. But nothing has materialized, possibly because Bloodborne game director and FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki doesn't want anyone else touching his baby.
That's according to former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida, who said that Bloodborne was "the most asked [for] thing" by PlayStation fans, and theorized that its creator was hesitant to let others recreate or modify his work. "My theory is: Because I remember Miyazaki-san, he really, really loved Bloodborne, [...] I think he is interested," Yoshida told Kinda Funny Games' Greg Miller last year, "but he’s so successful, and he’s so busy, he cannot do [it] himself, but he doesn’t want anyone else to touch it. That’s my theory. And the PlayStation team respects his wish. That’s my guess."
FromSoftware and Miyazaki are indeed quite busy. The acclaimed studio is currently working on a new version of Elden Ring for Nintendo Switch 2 called Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition and a Switch 2 exclusive gam, The Duskbloods. The studio is also rumored to be working on an unannounced multiplatform project and has a movie adaptation of Elden Ring in development with writer/director Alex Garland. FromSoft typically has multiple games in development, though it has never indicated it would return to Bloodborne, an intellectual property that Sony owns.
Whether FromSoftware and Sony will ever return to Bloodborne for a new version or a sequel remains to be seen. But at this point, nearly 11 years out from Bloodborne's release on PS4, many fans have resigned themselves to a new project never happening. With Bluepoint closing and FromSoft outright denying others working on a remake, it's looking less and less likely that it ever will.
For now (and maybe forever), you can enjoy Bloodborne on PS4 and on PS5 through backward compatibility.
