As soon as I saw that Flowery dude at the beginning of Deltarune Chapter 5, I just knew he was up to no good. Well, that depends on where you’re standing, of course, but it was clear a boss fight was brewing, one of rather epic proportions.
And the thing is, this fight is no joke. I mean, I’m no Deltarune expert, so this one definitely took a good few attempts; however, it is really fun to improve at.
Upon reaching the top of the Castle at the end of Chapter 5, Flowery will confront you to stop you from closing the Fountain. Here, he will gather all the flowers and stage his final assault. Let’s take a look at each stage of the boss fight, some of the attacks and how to best tackle this flowery foe.
Flowery Overview
So, the main gimmick of this fight is the Blue mechanic. Here, you’re able to charge up your heart and use it to break through or interact with blue-coloured objects. You can either charge up your heart for a big speed boost or simply mash the charge key to quickly dash through objects. Breaking Blue objects will increase your TP.
The most important thing about this fight is balancing your HP and your TP. To progress through this fight, you’ll need to use your TP to ACT. Having both Susie and Ralsei alive will speed this up massively, meaning you can use Z-moves, so keeping them healthy is another priority. In addition, you can use your teammate's magic actions to generate TP, which is crucial for moving on swiftly.
However, you will take damage. It’s extremely difficult to avoid all instances of damage here, simply because of how much is going on. Whether it’s tricky movements or simply becoming tired from mashing the same key over and over again, mistakes will be made, but don’t worry. Simply fill your inventory with Green Tea and a Revive Mint just in case.
Green’s Shop is pretty close by and can be fast-travelled to through the glowing door. Green Tea costs only 777 and heals 180 HP. By this point, you should have more than enough cash for at least 6 or so of these.
Flowery - Phase 1
In the first stage of the fight, Flowery will use 2 main attacks against you. You need to use your TP to either Pose or to Blow Flowery Away. Posing will show a small figure where you need to slot it perfectly into the gap for maximum Mercy effectiveness. The Blow Away ACT simply requires you to mash Z as fast as you can.
In terms of attacks, the first requires you to smash through a bunch of blue barriers, moving your Soul up and down to fit through the small spaces in the Bamboo.
The second will cause Flowery to face you head-on. He will turn Blue and then dash towards you. You need to tap the charge key just before he dashes into you to knock him back.
While you can charge the Soul, I've found the easiest way to avoid everything is to simply mash the charge key as fast as you can. This is pretty exhausting, but it works well.
Flowery - Phase 2
Aqua & Seth
Progressing to the next stage of the fight, Flowery will summon the flowers, 2 at a time, to help him in combat. With Seth and Aqua, you simply need to Spin with both Susie and Ralsei twice to get them to leave the battlefield.
Naturally, there are 2 more attacks to look out for here. The first is Seth’s, which introduces a bunch of areas covered in Blue. You need to dash from each box to the next, avoiding the scrolling words. You can try to grab the green words, which will grant you 4 TP each. While the extra TP is very useful, it’s better to avoid as much damage as you can.
In terms of Aqua’s attack, you’ll need to charge up your Soul to jump onto a series of lilypads and avoid lines of knives. Note that here, you only need to charge for the first lilypad, unless you end up falling down. The pads will move up and down as you pick up speed. You can do this without falling, but you need to be perfect in your movement actions.
Orange & Green
For these two, again, you’ll need to Praise them in the ACT menu. If you do this with both Susie and Ralsei, you’ll only need to do it twice to move on.
In the meantime, there are 2 variations of attacks you’ve seen before. The first will see both Orange and Flowery dashing forward to bash into you. When knocked back, Orange will send out 2 white fists you need to avoid. In addition, Flowery can perform a Fake Out and cancel his dash, instead sending a bunch of flames towards you.
For the other, you’ll see a variation of the first attacks, where you need to break the Blue Bamboo columns. However, there will be small cactus plants here that you need to avoid. Also, a huge wall of thorns will rise up behind you. You need to break as many blue Bamboo as possible, or the thorns will catch up with you.
Blue & Yellow
With these two, you need to perform the Justice ACT, which requires Max TP. This will trigger a Trial where you need to select Moss and accuse Flowery. In every subsequent version of the fight, the trial will be skipped, and Ralsei will be removed from the fight.
While you’re building up TP, there is only 1 attack from Blue and Yellow. This is another variation of the Bamboo attack, requiring you to smash through as many as possible. However, here, you’ll also have to dodge exploding flowers. It’s very tricky to smash every blue object while avoiding the white projectiles, so just keep moving.
Flowery - Phase 3
Ultimate Attack
Once you’ve gotten rid of the final 2 flowers, you will reach the final stage of the fight.
Here, Flowery will perform a strong attack. You’ll need to break through increasingly small gaps of Blue Bamboo and then knock Flowery back 4 times. Once you’ve done this, you’ll need to ACT and pick Susie’s Idea. Remember, this can only be done if she’s still active, so try to heal her up as best you can.
While you’re gathering TP or trying to heal Susie, Flowery will perform a variation of the Bash attack on you, also spawning white spinning projectiles after each bash that you need to dodge.
The Last Stand
After picking Susie’s idea, she will throw you up into the air, causing you to grab onto the trellis covering the giant plant column. Here, you’ll need to climb up, moving through the mini-maze to reach the Blue Bamboo, which will boost you higher. All the while, a wall of thorns pursues you. While these thorns are pretty fast, you’re given a pretty generous margin of error, so don’t panic too much.
Eventually, you’ll reach the top, and Flowery will transform into Omega Flowery… does that bring back any memories? Luckily, this is the easiest part of the entire fight, so don’t stress too much.
The stage will transform into a side-scrolling section with Kris running with their sword. Flowery will start glowing and charge towards you. You simply need to swing your sword and knock him back.
Flowery can either charge low or charge high, where you’ll need to jump and slash at the same time to knock him back. You’ll need to do this around 7-8 times. You can take damage here, with each failure causing 60 health of damage. However, you have 240 HP, so you can fail 3 times without an issue.
After knocking Flowery back enough times, he will collapse, and the fight will be over! Now you can finally relax and enjoy the rest of the chapter. But was that the hardest fight of Chapter 5, or is there another Secret Boss waiting in the wings? I think you know the answer to that already!
Take a breather, watch the chapter play out, and then you can load your old save to be placed back into the area before the Flowery fight. Chapter 6 can’t come soon enough!
