Destiny 2 joins PlayStation Plus as development ends at Bungie

Destiny 2: Legacy Collection comes to PS Plus the same day its final update arrives

Sony Interactive Entertainment's Days of Play kicks off Wednesday. It's a two-week event that includes discounts on PlayStation games and accessories, new game trials, PlayStation Tournaments, and more.

As part of Days of Play, Sony announced that Destiny 2: Legacy Collection will join PlayStation Plus' Game Catalog on June 9 for Premium and Extra subscribers. The Legacy Collection includes Destiny 2, as well as several weapon packs (Beyond Light, Shadowkeep, Forsaken) and major expansions, including The Witch Queen, Nightfall, and The Final Shape.

Destiny 2 lands in the Game Catalog on the same day its final update arrives. On May 21, Bungie announced it was ending active development on the live-service looter shooter. "While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2," Bungie said.

According to a report from Bloomberg, Bungie is now planning to make "a significant number of layoffs" as it figures out what's next for the studio. Bungie released the extraction shooter Marathon earlier this year, and, despite a strong reception, it's struggled to find a large audience.

PlayStation Plus' Game Catalog of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games is available to those who subscribe to its higher tiers, above Essential. It's Sony's answer to Xbox Game Pass, offering hundreds of games for subscribers to download and check out. The rest of June's Game Catalog lineup will be announced next month.

This month's PS Plus Essential games are also still available to download and include EA Sports FC 26, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, and Nine Sols.
