A new era and new characters are coming to Dragon Ball as part of an upcoming project codenamed Age 1000, publisher Bandai Namco announced this weekend at the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event. The Age 1000 game project promises "a brand-new Dragon Ball world" with original characters designed by manga and anime series creator Akira Toriyama.
The Age 1000 teaser trailer focuses on a never-before-seen character designed by Toriyama before his death in 2024. According to an official description from Bandai Namco, Age 1000 will "introduce even more unique characters as the adventure unfolds."
While the trailer largely focuses on the unnamed original character, a member of Capsule Corporation who wears the initials "GS," it also acknowledges some of the franchise's most iconic heroes and villains. As the trailer's camera zooms into the new character's eye, we see images of Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Frieza, Beerus, and others, just before the mysterious new character goes Super Saiyan.
Dragon Ball fans will recognize Age 1000 as the setting for Dragon Ball Online, the MMORPG released in select Asian markets starting in 2010. Dragon Ball Online servers have since been shut down, but elements and characters from that game were later repurposed for the Dragon Ball Xenoverse games. Dragon Ball Online and Dragon Ball Xenoverse focused on original, customizable characters and a tour of Dragon Ball history.
Dragon Ball's Age 1000 project is slated for a 2027 release on unspecified platforms. Bandai Namco promises that more details on the game will be revealed at Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026 in the U.S. on April 18-19.
