Most of your time in Echoes of Aincrad will be spent progressing the main story, though you can also take some time to tackle side quests you discover via clues or pick up from NPCs in towns. And you'll actually want to pursue these because a few specific quests can unlock some important things, one of which is this game's version of gear transmog.
Transmog, for lack of a better explanation, is a universal feature in various RPGs that allows you to disguise or mask your currently equipped gear piece with another one while retaining the stats of the equipped one. And this is great because it lets you mix and match gear pieces to create the perfect fashionable look for your OC or main character without sacrificing their stats.
To my honest surprise, this game also has this feature, so in today's guide, I invite you to join me in learning how to access the unlockable Costumes feature in Echoes of Aincrad.
How to Unlock and Access Costumes in Echoes of Aincrad

The option to use Armor Costumes is unlocked through a side quest from an NPC in Echoes of Aincrad. To be specific, it will become available around the time you've reached the "Onward to Tolbana" Main Quest with the objective to "Leave for Tolbana". The side quest in question is called "Opportunity," and can be obtained from a female NPC next to the Item Seller in the Town of Beginnings, as shown above. Talk to the NPC, and she'll give you a briefing about her wanting help getting supplies for her "big adventure".
Complete The Opportunity Side Quest
At this point in the game, you'll have almost all prior safe checkpoints unlocked across the various regions, but the closest one you can fast-travel to when beginning this quest is likely the Esta Road checkpoint.
Start the quest; the main goal is simply to reach the yellow objective marker and tackle the boss. From the right side of this checkpoint, you can cross the bridge to reach the other side of the river. From there, just follow the path left and then up. However, keep in mind you can also loop around to the center and activate the Boar's Knoll safe checkpoint statue, but that's pretty much optional and lets you defog the map for better clarity of where to go.
Head straight up, and once you're almost there, be sure to also grab the Southern Poeni Prairie safe checkpoint just in case you die to the boss or well, because checkpoints in this game are just a huge help in general.
Defeat the Glenspore Grizzly
Once you approach the objective marker, proceed through the yellow grid wall to initiate the boss fight against the Glenspore Grizzly, one of the mutated bears you've likely already fought in a main quest. But that's not all you're battling here; in addition to this main boss, you also need to take down a Mama Boar, but thankfully, this is a secondary target with not much HP.
Regardless, I'd still recommend taking down the boar first because of its continuous running attacks. Once that's out of the equation, safely take down the Glenspore Grizzly with your partner. It is a pretty simple encounter, scaled to your level like almost any other quest, so you should have no problem beating it. The Glenspore Grizzly loves to inflict burning damage from its attacks, so watch out for them plus its deadly grab attacks.
The rewards for successfully defeating this boss fight can vary depending on the weapons and materials you obtain via RNG, but the main thing you'll receive here is the Rainbow Gallbladder. Once you've completed the quest, head back to the NPC to turn in the Opportunity side quest.
How to Change Armor Costume
Upon completing the side quest, you'll receive a pop-up notifying you that you've unlocked the Costumes feature in Echoes of Aincrad. Head back to the Chest in your room, and from the Equipment option, you can now change your armor's style and appearance to another piece of armor of your choice without removing its stats or effects.
Unfortunately, the only downside worth mentioning is that you can't change the look or the color of your weapons. Well, at least as of writing this guide.
Almost every piece of gear you've unlocked will be available here, whether from discovered blueprints or from the ones you've unlocked for crafting back at the Smithy. You can also change the dye color here for each layer of the gear piece, just in case you're looking to make your character stand out to your preferences.
