After waiting for another age to pass, Bandai Namco has finally announced the release date for Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 and other platforms, and to no one's surprise, it's being jammed into the already packed late Summer.
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition was the first game Nintendo showed during the debut Switch 2 Direct, which many fans believed meant that it would be arriving shortly after the console's launch, especially as Elden Ring had been out for a few years at this point. Turns out, FromSoftware would wait a year after the Switch 2's launch to get their aging open-world title on the system.
Bandai Namco has announced that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28, 2026. Those who already own the game on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox systems will be able to purchase the new content seperarely, meaning they won't miss out for being early adopters.
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition Comes To Nintendo Switch 2 In August
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition contains the base game, the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and fresh content, including new starting classes, and equippable skins for Torrent. For longtime fans, the ability to change Torrent's appearance is easily the most exciting part of the new edition, considering it's something that many people thought should have been in the base game.
Of the two new starting classes, only one has been revealed: Heavy Knight. As the name suggests, they're all about using big weapons and thick armor, allowing them to absorb blows and deal tons of damage straight back to the enemy. That being said, classes aren't super important in Elden Ring, as they're mostly about starting stat allocation, and it's easy to switch to another approach else mid-game.

Fans are excited to learn that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is finally coming to Nintendo Switch 2, though that comes with some trepidation. The game's last in-person showing had dreadful perfomance issues, especially on the overworld, and fans were concerned that FromSoftware was struggling to get the game running on Nintendo's new hardware, especially considering the company's less than stellar history with ports.
It's also been noted that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is another later Summer/Autumn game, with the August/September/October period being absolutely jam-packed and rife with competition. This is because Grand Theft Auto 6 is launching in November, and no company wants to risk their games going up against it. Hopefully, this doesn't mean FromSoftware is rushing out Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition to avoid it.
FromSoftware also has another big Nintendo Switch 2 game coming out: The Duskbloods, which hasn't had any major updates since it was shown during the system's debut trailer. If Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is getting updates via a random press release, rather than a Nintendo Direct, then there's a good chance that The Duskbloods will appear during the next big Nintendo show.
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is being aimed squarely at the new Nintendo audience that missed it the first time around, as the new DLC likely isn't enough to inspire another playthrough, especially after it has been out for so long. If FromSoftware has ironed out the issues seen at the game's last showing, then it could be a huge hit for the system, especially in a year when it's in dire need of new titles, or in Elden Ring's case, an old one for a new audience.
