If there is one thing that can make or break the long-term replayability of a hardcore extraction shooter, it is how rewarding (or exhausting, it depends) the progression loop feels.
And it seems that Battlestate Games is fully aware of that. As Escape From Tarkov prepares for its upcoming 1.1.0.0 update, which is set to arrive within the next week, the developers are already giving players plenty of reasons to be excited about hopping back into the raids.
Dismantling the Task Chains
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) to detail a major gameplay rebalance ahead of the First Season, the developers revealed a complete overhaul of the side task system. By dismantling the strict, artificial roadblocks of the past, this change aims to breathe fresh life into the game's replayability and give players genuine freedom in how they gear up for raids.
That means that, under the update 1.1.0.0, the vast majority of tasks will no longer force players down rigid quest chains where every single objective remains locked behind the previous one. Instead, task progression is being tied directly to trader loyalty levels (LL).
Starting at LL1 with a trader, players will gain access to a baseline set of tasks. Completing a handful of these quests will allow you to advance to LL2, which in turn opens up a fresh batch of increasingly challenging objectives. To make things even sweeter for PMCs running low on funds, the payouts for these tasks are shifting significantly toward cold, hard cash rather than cluttering your stash with situational barter items and low-tier gear.
The developers revealed a complete overhaul of the side task system. By dismantling the strict, artificial roadblocks of the past, this change aims to breathe fresh life into the game's replayability and give players genuine freedom in how they gear up for raids.
So, under this new framework, trade offers and exceptions operate with a far more streamlined logic. Most trade offers will now unlock immediately upon reaching a new loyalty level with a trader, bypassing specific quest requirements. For instance, players can expect items like the Tri-Zip backpack to become available as soon as they reach Ragman LL3, while high-tier gear like the DevTac Ronin helmet unlocks instantly at Mechanic LL2.
That said, traditional quest chains haven't vanished entirely, but their purpose has been redefined quite a bit. A select few tasks will remain organized in linear chains regardless of a trader's loyalty level, though these exceptions are strictly reserved for unlocking ultra-rare trade offers or unique crafting recipes.
To keep things fair and eliminate unnecessary guesswork, key rewards for these special task chains will be displayed as soon as you accept the initial quest, letting players evaluate upfront whether the grind is truly worth their time.
In the end, the main goal behind this major rebalance is to make progression feel far less linear and significantly less dependent on specific tasks, offering multiple viable paths to acquire top-tier gear.
And the response across community forums and social media has been overwhelmingly positive, with returning players celebrating the focus on rewarding actual progress rather than just raw time spent. Some players are already noting that this set of changes alone is going to make the First Season feel fresher, especially during that chaotic early phase where everyone is running around as a “Timmy” trying to figure out the new meta (we’ve all been there).
While some Standard Account owners have raised minor questions about potential trader reputation bottlenecks, the overarching consensus is that this overhaul is a win for the game's long-term health! But hey, seeing Battlestate Games actively refine progression to boost replayability makes jumping back into Tarkov sound better than ever, right?
