As we enter the new year, it’s time to look forward to the new Nintendo games 2026 has in store for us.
Following the successful launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, Nintendo will undoubtedly look to capitalize on the momentum seen during its launch window. An impressive six new first-party games were released for the Switch 2 in 2025, plus the updated content for Switch games. There was also the impressive indie support and surprisingly great third-party ports, notably Cyberpunk 2077.

Nintendo Switch 2's Holiday Sales Were Weaker Than Original Switch
The Nintendo Switch 2's sales in its first holiday season were down compared to the Switch's in the same period, due to a lack of games.
That’s all in the past now, though, and we have a lot to look forward to in 2026.
At the time of writing, Nintendo hasn’t revealed its full slate of 2026 games. Having said that, we do know that there’s plenty to look forward to.
This list will include games exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, as well as titles playable on the original Nintendo Switch.
9 Mario Tennis Fever
Release Date: February 12th, 2026
With the launch of a new Nintendo console, you just knew that the Mario Sports games would return beyond Mario Kart.
First up is the return of Mario Tennis with Mario Tennis Fever, which looks to build on the somewhat shallow and disappointing 2018 entry, Mario Tennis Aces.
The good news is that there are plenty of characters to choose from (38, the most in series history), complete with 30 different Fever Rackets, all with their own unique abilities as well. Nintendo is also promising a combination of traditional Tennis gameplay and that Mario Sports twist, plus several game modes, including Tournament, Trial Towers, and an Adventure mode.
8 Pokémon Pokopia
Release Date: March 5th, 2026
What if the Pokémon franchise had its own cozy life simulator? Not only that, but what if you played said cozy life simulator as a Ditto transformed into a human? You’d get Pokémon Pokopia, coming this March for Nintendo Switch 2.
All the hallmarks of the cozy life simulator genre are here, complete with the Pokémon flair fans know and love. It may not be Animal Crossing, but it will surely help us bridge the gap until Animal Crossing makes its Switch 2 debut in the (hopefully near) future.
Given the popularity of cozy games today, not to mention the fact that Pokémon is arguably the most popular media franchise of all time, you have the makings of a guaranteed commercial success.
7 Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream
Release Date: Spring 2026
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream
If you’re looking for a life simulator that doesn’t double as a Pokémon game, then Tomodachi Life is surely more up your alley.
The long-awaited sequel to the Nintendo 3DS cult classic, Tomodachi Life lets you live out your life as you see fit. Create a Mii, give them some personality and characteristics, and let your imagination run wild.
If this sounds like Nintendo’s version of The Sims, then to be honest, you’re right. It does have a Nintendo flair, though, leaning in to some more wacky and over-the-top organic gameplay that has been meme’d over the years.
Tomodachi Life will also be available for the Nintendo Switch.
6 Yoshi and the Mysterious Book
Release Date: Spring 2026
Yoshi and the Mysterious Book
I’m not sure anyone expected a new Yoshi side-scroller for the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026, but here we are. Then again, the Switch 2 launched with a new Donkey Kong 3D platformer, so anything is possible.
In typical Yoshi fashion, we can expect an adorable asthetic to match its platforming gameplay. The hook here is that Yoshi will enter a book in order to find and discover various creatures, each with their own unique abilities.
While more concrete details aren’t quite available at this time, I wouldn’t be surprised to see its gameplay feel similar to Yoshi’s Woolly World.

It's a new year, and there are old adventure games that need a remaster.
5 The Duskbloods
Release Date: 2026
Speaking on things that no one was expecting, let’s talk about the upcoming FromSoftware game that’s a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive.
It’s not quite the traditional Soulslike we’ve become accustomed to, instead following in the footsteps of Elden Ring: Nightreign as a game that features both Player vs. Player and Player vs. Environment content for up to eight players. Still, given the success of Nightreign, FromSoftware has deserved the benefit of the doubt.
At first glance, The Duskbloods feels like a spiritual successor to Bloodborne, and that already has us interested. Given FromSoftware’s track record, I have no doubt this will be another winner.
4 Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave
Release Date: 2026
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave
The most recent Nintendo Direct showcase in September 2025 finished with the revelation of a new Fire Emblem game for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Fortune’s Weave looks to follow more in the footsteps of the highly successful Three Houses in terms of its presentation, which, if you ask me, is a good thing; Engage’s presentation, story, and characters were incredibly divisive, and to be honest, I was not the biggest fan.
Beyond that, I imagine we can expect more of the same in terms of fantasy turn-based strategy, relationship building, and an enhanced story that has helped make Fire Emblem the success it is today.
3 Rhythm Heaven Groove
Release Date: 2026
First released in 2006, the Rhythm Heaven series has kept us grooving to the beat for two decades now.
This year, Nintendo is bringing it back for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. In Rhythm Heaven Groove, players will be tasked with performing WarioWare-esque rhythm mini-games.
Expect a full gameplay reveal during a 2026 Nintendo Direct, most likely during the first few months of the year. Tradition says that we'll get one in February or March.
2 Pokémon Champions
Release Date: TBA
A spin-off from the mainline Pokémon franchise, Pokémon Champions is all about multiplayer action.
Concrete details on the game are currently scarce, but we do know that it looks a lot like the Pokémon Stadium games, with the focus being all about battling Pokémon against others.
One modern hook here is that Pokémon Champions will feature cross-platform support between the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. The game will also feature cross-generation battles, which means Mega Evolutions can face off against Tera-powered Pokémon.
1 Splatoon Raiders
Release Date: TBA
It’s not a traditional Splatoon game, but Nintendo’s popular third-person shooter franchise is still making its way to the Nintendo Switch 2, albeit in spin-off form.
We’d like to think that Splatoon Raiders, which features players playing the “Mechanic” as they explore the Spirhalite Islands, is releasing this year, but Nintendo hasn’t confirmed a 2026 release date at this time.
It's possible that, for whatever reason, Splatoon Raiders is still a ways off, but Nintendo is someone who loves keeping things close to the chest until a game is about to release. We'll see if that's the case here with Splatoon Raiders.
