Is Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 3 confirmed?
No, Apple hasn’t announced a third season of Monarch. However, producer Tory Tunnell heavily implied it’s in the works when she spoke with Polygon ahead of the season 2 premiere.
“With Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, we want to make sure that we're not repeating ourselves. We feel like we really set a lot of questions up in season 1 and we put them to bed in some ways in season 2, and now we're ready for our next adventure,” she said. “We'll have to all come to season 3 to see how it comes.”
What is the plot of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 3?
Image: AppleTVMonarch season 2 ended with Keiko Miura (Mari Yamamoto), Cate Randa (Anna Sawai), and May Olowe-Hewitt (Kiersey Clemons) all working together at Monarch to track down Kentaro Randa (Ren Watabe) and Isabel Simmons (Amber Midthunder). Kentaro is convinced he can use the time warping properties of Axis Mundi to prevent the death of his father, and flees with Isabel after their scheme to open a portal on Skull Island fails. Colonel Lee Shaw (Kurt Russell) then tracks the pair to the volcano lair of Rodan, giving the giant pteranodon introduced in Toho’s 1956 film Rodan some more time to shine.
Monarch takes place between the events of Gareth Edwards’ 2014 film Godzilla and Michael Dougherty’s 2019 film Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The series is catching up with the latter film, where a Monarch scientist awakened Rodan, who was then quickly killed by Ghidorah. But before that happens, Monarch season 3 could spend a bit more time with the iconic Titan.
Rodan might not be the true star of the show, though. Kong appeared in the Monarch season 1 finale in 2025, and while he had some big fights in season 2, most of the plot revolved around Titan X, who wasn’t introduced until the show’s season 2 trailer dropped in 2025. Will the Eighth Wonder of the World play an even bigger role in season 3?
When will Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 3 be released?
Image: AppleTVConsidering the series hasn’t been renewed yet, it will probably be a while. Monarch was renewed for the first time three months after season 1 wrapped in January 2024, and season 2 kicked off on Feb. 27, 2026. Given a similar timeline, you can expect a third season to arrive in spring 2028.
What other MonsterVerse projects are in the works?
Shooting is set to begin this summer on an untitled Monarch spinoff following the young Lee Shaw (Wyatt Russell) as he tracks Titans during the Cold War. Much of the filming on Godzilla x Kong: Supernova has already been completed, and the sixth MonsterVerse film is expected to be released on March 26, 2027.
