The Premier City Building Game is Free to Play This Weekend

Covering the video games industry since 2017, with experience in news, articles, lists, and reviews (and I blame The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for that).

If you are a fan of RPGs and want a third-person version: Tayná Garcia is a Brazilian journalist (but you can call her Tay) who ended up working with video games after finishing Zelda: Majora's Mask when she was a kid. With more than eight years of experience in the segment, she has been an assistant editor at Jovem Nerd in the past and is currently a contributor at DualShockers and a writer for gaming magazines for Editora Europa. Oh, and she may like Hideo Kojima a bit too much.

If you were still on the fence about what to start playing this weekend, your lucky moment has arrived thanks to a little help from Steam!

That’s because the platform is currently offering free trials for three different PC games over the coming days, providing plenty of gameplay hours for free until March 9.

Build, Manage, and Survive for Free

The first standout among the freebies is Cities: Skylines, the classic city simulation from developer Colossal Order.

It delivers an incredibly addictive and satisfying experience of planning and building metropolises from the ground up, so it is a nice pick for fans of the genre.

However, be warned that the learning curve is somewhat steep. Since this is a limited-time free trial, I recommend looking up a few guides (especially regarding road layouts and traffic management, as they can become a problem pretty quickly) to get your city running as fast as possible before your time runs out.

The second game on the list is Parkitect, which shares some DNA with Cities: Skylines as a business simulation game, but trades city blocks for rollercoasters.

So instead of managing urban sprawl, you must create and manage successful theme parks in this one. This is an excellent choice for those looking to play with friends over the weekend, as it supports online co-op for up to eight players in both its campaign and sandbox modes.

Last but not least, we have a free trial for The Riftbreaker, a base-building survival game blended with action-RPG elements. There is a lot to do in this title, and it is all a blast, especially when playing cooperatively with a friend, though the solo experience is just as engaging.

The main goal around here is to build up your base, craft powerful weapons, and research new inventions to survive, all while enjoying highly addictive hack-and-slash mechanics to fend off massive enemy hordes.
